I feel bad for feeling bad - does this make sense?

Yes, it makes sense and I know what you mean. But you needn't feel bad really - you have to be honest about how these things make you feel and if you can't have a moan and an arrrrgghhhhhh! here once in a while, where can you?!?!

At the end of the day, I am in so much debt, another £1,000 won't push me over the edge I think

Don't let it!!! You're doing so well, another £1000 seems a shame to add to your total but really, being debt free is about the long term isn't it... another few months is not the end of the world and I'm sure you'll find ways to bring that date even closer again :T

Turns out the way I have been advised to work them out was incorrect because the interest is front loaded so that is what is paid first. Anyway, to cut a long story short, I was about £1,000 out on my calculations for my overall debt when I started and now. I am still chuffed to bits with my progress but I thought I was a bit further along than I am

    Ooops! :o

Sorry Moozie. When I worked it out I just assumed you realised thats how the calculations work over the whole term of the loan! :o

Sorry hun! I feel really bad now! :o:(

Kath you are absolutely right hun. Thank you for your support. I see things a bit clearer today and don't feel half as bad, thank goodness! It must be that good old moan yesterday! :o

SS you have nothing to feel bad about hun :kisses3: I am the one with the severe mathematical problems :rotfl:

I will always be grateful for your help and support. What's a £1,000 amongst friends anyway.... :rotfl:

Anyway, having slept on it, I feel better about it. I am focusing on the crediut card and overdraft for now. They come to £2,222 which I thought was a sign  Once I pay them off, I'll worry about the loans.

By the way, I do believe you owe me and Kath a late night of frivolity and  Or can you not fit us into your busy diary anymore??? ;)

No probs Moozie, that's what we're here for isn't it!! You've got a good plan focussing on the card and overdraft first... you'll have cleared them before you know it :T :D

  • Hi Moozie,

Just found this thread and think you are amazing - keep up!

I'm surprised there have been no updates to this thread since August?

Maybe the spreadsheet below will help you work out spending etc - I know it helped me alot, so I listed it here for other MSER's.

Keep up and let us know the latest!

    Hi Moozie,

I missed the news about your wedding as I was on my hols when you announced the great news.

    Congratulations albeit belated ones!

We too had a very cost effective wedding with trestle tables borrowed from our daughter's school and chairs from the church opposite and a friend to take the photos. Simple but good sit down meal made by us and friends after the civil ceremony and a party for all in the evening, all at home.

Was a lovely day and all the better for not running up debts. Our daughter made a lovely bridesmaid and we asked friends to do readings at the Register Office.

    Good afternoon :)

I had not looked at my thread for a while and I can honestly say, I am chuffed to bits to see LookingAhead, EagerLearner and Verbatim thought of me! Thank you guys, it means a lot!

Well, I have not updated the thread for almost two months which is incredible for me. I do like to come on here and keep you all posted as so many have kindly said that my thread has inspired or spurred you on and I do also like to see how far I’ve come. Here’s a summary of what has been going on then.

Recently, the OH and I decided to get married next year :j A very happy and exciting time for us after a year that made us ask many times what’s going to be next!?!?!? He was nearly debt free then and although we have dealt with our debts individually, he would have been happy to lend me a hand following him becoming debt free. Well, the OH worked hard and is now debt free :T He’s still battling a bit with dipping into his overdraft at the end of the month but that’s only for a small amount and only for a few days.

Things took another turn after that for us. We took another major decision: to buy our first house! :D Now I know what you are thinking – are they mad? Moozie owes over £12k! Maybe we are  We have been very open with each other over our finances ever since I, and then we, saw the light in March this year. We talked it over and over again and it was clear that in order for me to carry on with my debt free quest, as I like to call it, the OH will have to manage the deposit and all other initial costs associated to buying a property. He does have savings and both our parents have been kind enough to gift us some money too so he wouldn't be going into debt for this. We have learnt our lesson after all :A

This is by far the ideal situation :o I wanted more than anything to be an equal partner in this venture, our first home, but if we waited until I was debt free and then until I had saved enough, we both felt we would have been completely priced out of the market that is still very aggressive around here. So the OH will shoulder all the costs and most of the additional expenditure every month until I am debt free. We will have to be careful with our budgeting and things will be tight but manageable. Watch out for the new SOA when we move ;)

Having made our mind up, we found the most beautiful property in the area we chose and we are well in our way of making it our own. We are at the stage of waiting to hear about exchange of contracts and we really can’t wait! :j

In terms of my debt, I have been attacking it even more aggressively recently. I just want to be rid of it sooner than Feb 08 so that I can start overpaying on the mortgage. Who would have thought I’d be thinking this way… I am now a third of the way there and seeing that percentage going up is the loveliest feeling!!!

I’ve also had some good news at work. I have been asked to work in a different area as apparently I am recognized as ‘one of the good ones that we must look after’ and I have been given a £4k a year pay rise. This is a temporary arrangement for 6 - 12 months starting at the end of this month but this is ideal timing as I do need a new challenge at work and, if I have worked everything out right, I could be debt free by this time next year - fingers crossed! :)

As you can see, it has been a busy time for us and the only reason I hadn’t posted about it all before is that I wanted to feel happy and comfortable with our decisions - and I do – and to have things underway. I have always maintained that there is life during as well as after debt and I am determined to make most of it cause the blooming thing runs away from us so fast if we are not keeping an eye on it! We are aware we are fortunate to be on good salaries but without your help, things would have been so different for us now. I dread to think of the alternative

I know I keep saying it but I am the most grateful person on here - thank you.
