  • Mrs Lds, I find that UK brands are generally recognised, and here a lot of German ones are as well, but French, Italiian and Spanish ones aren't unless they are the really "big names" - most people would recognise Dior, for instance!

I tend to go more on the look of things - generally if they have a high proprtion of natural fibres, and a lot of detailing like embroidery, beading, overstitching on lapels, they're a good-quality buy. For vintage, condition is very important, so you need to look closely for any damage, staining or moth-holes.

    Happy hunting!

My recent boot sale / charity shop buys.

2 MINT Vintage wool sixties suits for my other half that fit him like a glove. 1 Magee and 1 The Label £5 each in charity shops. I have to say he looks very sharp and Mod like in them.... Yummy!!

A genuine Chemise Lacoste polo in excellent condition £2 - snapped that one up before the guy that came in especially for it!

Boot sale - our first so not that experienced.. yet!
We got a huge bunch of fresh English Asparagus - about 2 X as much as in supermarket packets, 7 Braeburn apples, a huge paper bag of mushrooms - fill your own and 6 pears and 6 Free Range Large eggs - £4.50!!

We also got a complete retro version of Monopoly - the new one takes way too long!! 50p. A complete Paul Daniels magic set - 50p and a complete version of Connect 4 - 50p.

Also got a Simpsons cookie tin for my OH 50p and a Sylvester the cat large soft toy with hot water bottle - £1. Oh yes and a heavy old rolling pin for 50p.

As a first attempt we probably paid well over the odds and haven't got the hang of it yet but for under a tenner we came back with a load of fresh fruit and veg and eggs and stuff we actually want.

Maybe we got there too late, started at 7 but after our BLT we didn't make it till 9 - will try better this week.

Thanks for all the tips. :p

Jehova's Witnesses had a pitch at our local boot fair and they were giving away free books. I wonder what books they were! Got to admire their commitment though.

Could be the Nutter's monthly! Unfortunately my sister is one and she has 3 young kids and they can't understand why they never get anything at Christmas or on their birthdays as all their freinds do. They are always so happy when they come round to ours at Christmas!!

Christ - I wish they were just committed Christians! Off topic - sorry....;)

And here too - a bit like weeds in the lawn, something that try as you will are never rid of them. I would actually prefer real alien enthusiasts or crop circle nuts cos it would be more interesting than listening to a cult - for profit - that denies millions of years of scientific EVIDENCE - and believes that the world was spawned from A.L.F in the 20th century!!

Celebrities believe any old garbage to make their world seem less "alien"!! Tom "thumb" Cruise - do you ever browse these boards?!!

I think we will have trouble getting through our large paper bag full for a quid! All the supermarkets we go to - which is all of them!! Tend to do mushrooms 4 around 80p + for a few hundred grams.

I guess we got nearly 2 KGs which isn't bad - apart from the short shelf life - Garlic mushies again methinks!

Similarly the large free range eggs we got - stamped and everything - 80p 4 6 or £1.40 for a dozen.

Just goes to show how much profit supermarkets make - even the "discount" ones.

Asparagus is roughly £1.50 for about 6-8 small heads in Asda - we got 15 large heads for £2 - English too.

I used to think that supermarkets worked on a 100% mark up on everything. I now realise that they work on a 500% + mark up - shocking.

Know where we will be getting our fruit and veg from in future!!
