  • A BIG box of Milk Tray in the Easter draw at my local Barnardo;s for £1 - plus a classic 1950s evening dress (taffeta and black velvet) for £6.95. It fits perfectly and is already earmarked for a ball at the end of June.. Plus there's a bespoke Donegal tweed jacket in my local shop which looks like it will fit the OH, just need to get some measurements off one of his others...

My local charity shop has a fairly flexible pricing policy - if you donate regularly (which I do - otherwise I'd have rooms stuffed with charity shop bargains..) they reduce the prices when you're buying. And they make a cup of tea or coffe for you when you go in. Works well for them - it's a big shop (in a barn) and if you're sipping a drink you'll take longer browsing, probably see things you wouldn't normally...

I have heard of Barnardos Brides by Appointment which is in Edinburgh. Its all samples/designer one offs of dresses and they have never been worn sold for a fraction of the price. I'm not sure of contact details but maybe if you google it? I think there may be one or two other branches in the UK. I read about it in my Sunday Post newspaper a few weeks ago. As the title of the shop suggests you must make an appointment before you arrive at the shop.

Hiya, its on Gorgie road, almost dalry road just before the big crossroads heading into town.

I booked an appointment and at the time it was maybe 3 weeks to wait, and not really worth it to be honest. Everything that fitted was hideos and very granny like and frilly.

If you were a size 6 or 8 then there was a bit more of a selection, but even then it wasnt great.

But you never know what you may find!

Yesterday I got a hamper style box full of real nappies, the lady said she had never used them. I know they are expensive cause my sister bought some for her little one. She paid £140 I paid £2.50 bargain.
  • My fella is working at a charity shop at the mo, and has just come home with another bargain, A Krups espresso maker which is complete (apart from instructions which i've found online anyway) for a pound! :j

Last week he bought 6 energy saving lightbulbs for 20p and a vibrating baby bouncy chair (for our 4th child due in July) for a pound!! ooooh and we got a Moulinex Juice master for 2 pounds, it is missing its juice jug but works great if you just stick a cup in the gap :T also a set of 2 cordless digital phones for 1.50 that are working great.:o (would have been worth that if only to just purchase for the rechargeable batteries!!)

The shop actually doesn't like electrical items for obvious reasons, and these would have probably been binned, so not only have i got some damn good bargains and helped charity i'm keeping usable items out of landfill :D
If google doesn't know it, how should i?

I got so much yesterday that I haven't got time to list them all!
I've had to have a massive wardrobe clearout to make room for my new bargains :j

Share the best buys! I love hearing what you've found.

    Vintage Active Sindy - 99p
Alexander McQueen jacket - £4.50 (slightly small now but cut so so well that it#'s being kept for when I lose weight)
Traid in London occasionally have sales where items are discounted from £4 to £3 to £1 - this is a great chance to get vintage bits.

    for EBAY SALES:
Ant and Bee children's book, bought for 39p, sold for £16
Set of Carlton Walking Ware plates - bought £16, sold for £200

I want to go jumble-sailing for some old dresses but not until I'm less cluttered. Pretty hard to find things like that in London these days, though.

There are a lot of bridal charity shops - there's one near Cheadle Hulme. If I were getting married (though I'm not into white that much) I'd go this way - you might find something interesting and you're helping charity rather than the wedding industry.

Agree on affluent areas. When I went to Richmond once they were selling Primark dresses for £10, and a worn Matthew Williamson coat for £50. The hospice shops in Golders Green, by comparison, sell Chloe tops for £10.

This is a great thread, why has it taken us so long to get round to this !!

Best ebay sale.. box of books at an auction, sold one book for £200.
I was given some books in a box, most wrapped in brown paper, sold two books as a set for £120.
Auction, bought 2 rolled up prints for £2 each, I didn't even see them properly. They turned out to be Robert Taylor signed prints, sold them for £80 each on ebay.

Monsoon silk !!!!! bow blouse with ribbon belt
4 x Accessorize belts - obi style and covered in shells, beads, sequins and coins, etc.
New Accessorize flip flops (my size) with tags

Another stall was selling everything for 10p!! BF got 6 (current) Topman Teeshirts, 2 Topman shirts, 2 Primark t shirts with tags still attached.

From another stall I paid £3 and got a Joules lambswool tanktop (eBay), a long sleeved new Zara teeshirt (keep), Next blouse (eBay) and a stunning pure silk maxi dress in purple and black paisley print with a hankerchief hem (keeping to wear in Goa next week)

    Also got:
This seasons' TopShop peg leg trousers in my size (unworn) for 50p

    6 x Silk scarves £1.50
    Cowboy boots £1.50
TopShop brown patent wooden platforms (new with tags) £2
Vintage quilted shoulder bag with chain strap £1

It's a lovely jacket - I've worn it for interviews and it always did the trick! If I had the space and time I'd follow your example and hunt out more stuff to sell - when I've done this in the past, though, it didn't end up selling and I lost money.
