I think the piano player in the lounge may have been taking the p*ss though - I settled down on a sofa with a book and a glass of Chardonnay and he launched into "All By Myself"!

I bet you didn't end up "Lonesome tonight" (well that night :D)

    Hi there

A few years back I found myself in a situation very similar to yours. Working in a school I could only take breaks in school holidays too.

I came across Intrepid travel. Small group travel in different parts of the world. Have travelled with them twice in Asia - this summer will be my 3rd trip with them. Website link.

Fantasic! All the planning for things like boarder crossings, hotels, transport is taken care of. Leaving you with more time to see the sights. You travel with mixed group of people - up to 12. Can spend as much or as little time with the group as your needs take you. There are different levels of comfort depending on your budget. There are other companies like GAP Adventures.

Please feel free to PM if you have any questions.

I'm a woman in my 30s and have just split from my long term boyfriend. It's not stopping me going on holidays - I've just booked myself a week's holiday in Berlin. It's a place I know quite well with loads to see, and I can speak the language fairly well so I thought it was the ideal place to "test the water" as a singleton! I'm really looking forward to having a selfish holiday where I can go where I want when I want and have what I want to eat - and then crash in my hotel early ready to do it all again the next day! :D

Think it would be great to occasionally do exactly as you want. We should all try it now and again.

@alisont - thanks for some good suggestions for locations. I've been around but I hadn't thought of Dubrovnik.

I agree about beach holidays - although I have found a wooden spatula is perfect for applying suncream to my back! Discovered that when working in Singapore. 60p it cost me...
Yeah, whatever. I'm a grown up, I can take it...

Yes! It wasn't wasted on me either! My german wasn't up to a retort though!

Hahahaha - I'm 32 though, they will kick me out for lying or make me go to bed early
    You're a babe in arms. ;)
I have a good few years on you but only got in from a party 30mins ago. 32 is the new 22...or don't you read Cosmo? :D (It's actually 36 is the new 26 but who's counting eh?!)

As someone who's marriage ended at 37, I can honestly say that you are in the fortunate position of being young enough to have contemporaries who have yet to marry for the first time. So the trick for you is to forget that chapter of your life, no matter how difficult that may seem right now, and remember that many people of your age are only just embarking on that phase of their lives or still searching.
What you need my dear is a culture where people marry later such as Austria or even Italy lately. You don't need club 18-30's to rediscover how to enjoy yourself. You need a culture where educated single women are treated with respect and valued. Ever considered working as a travel rep for your summer holidays? It's a great way to meet new people and have a hell of a lot of fun too.
Other than that, let your sense of adventure free and try something like Intrepid Travel's escorted tours... http://www.intrepidtravel.com/
One of my best mates works for them and has a great time trying out their new tours. She had a 'year out to go travelling' at 18 and didn't go home for 16yrs, and trust me, that gal knows how to party!

Yes, you have done the whole marriage thing and it stings like hell when it goes horribly wrong, but you have the choice (and time is sooo on your side) to make a fantastic new life for yourself or waste the next few years licking your wounds. I see you taking the first option and meeting some great new people along the way who are like minded and just waiting for a new face to rock their world. Have fun!

You wonderful person!!! I like holidays in sunny places (but rarely sunbathe). When I do I can never get the blasted suncream on my back and don't like to ask strangers to help. This is perfect - I'm off to Poundland for a spatula!

Well - have to do it SME style :D

You can go on an 18/30s holiday thats only a title the actual age range of people who can go are 17 - 35. In the past there wasn't any age restrictions but it got where a lot of senior people were going on them cause in those days you could go for £99 but it caused problems ie the oldies didn't want to go on the trips so a loss of revenue for the reps and of course they complained about the noise and all the shannanigans going on lol.
