I also found Munich a good solo location. Everyone was really friendly and several of my guide books reckoned it was the singles capital of Europe! Also Prague and Krakow.
I find when I go away on my own I tend to make sure I get a really comfy hotel. Always seems more important to me somehow when I'm on my own. I'm much more prepared to rough it when I go with a partner or friend.
Thanks so much for this. The ideas are great.
I think I will have a little look at Munich, Prague and Krakow. I also know what you mean about the hotel.0 -
You could try a company called Speedbreaks - they are for singletons but I know their ski holidays include people who are attached but their partners don't ski. I don't think they are overly expensive either although the people can be a bit strange.
If you like dancing you could try a company called Rock Bottoms - you don't need a partner and they are great fun. I can remember going and they held a dance class first thing and you were supposed to wear your pyjamas - they did a dance routine to that song about Toast:rotfl:0 -
And if you fancy a lie in there's no one to stop you... if you fancy getting up early you just do it... if you want to curl up with a DVD and a glass of vino at 9 o'clock then that's your choice. There's a lot to be said for a solo trip...
Also, I've found waiters extremely attentive when I've been on my own - hee hee! In fact the last time I went to Switzerland there was a middle aged English couple who were whinging away because of the attention I seemed to be getting!Yeah, whatever. I'm a grown up, I can take it...0 -
Know someone who went on a tour of historical places in Italy. Don't know about the cost but it seemed to go well. Think people often go special interest holidays on there own. Could try cooking, painting or something like that as you are kept busy. There are always lots of bus tours with more mature people and you could find yourself a sugar daddy!(rich of course)0

Haha - thanks ali..like your thinking! suddenly it doesn't seem so bad! I may ask about the waiter situation before I book though0

I think the piano player in the lounge may have been taking the p*ss though - I settled down on a sofa with a book and a glass of Chardonnay and he launched into "All By Myself"!Yeah, whatever. I'm a grown up, I can take it...0

I have travelled on my own (as Im single and friends dont always want to go where I want to go!)
Been on city breaks here (known as travelodge queen at work:rotfl: )
Been on 2 cruises on my own - one was a promotional one/offer in the Daily Mail - would of been free if Id of shared with a stranger but I paid £400 for my own cabin on Thompson cruises and had a great time.
Been on one of the Daily Express free cruise for 40 vouchers a few years back - only had to pay £60 flight to Venice and that was wonderful - met 3 other ladies off a travel forum so we ate together and had a great week.
I went to Prague with friends a couple and spent time on my own - felt totally safe, nice city break.
Places I want to return to and felt safe on my own were Prague, Dubrovnik, Venice and Barcalona.
Id not go on a beach type hol on my own as Id get bored but love city breaks and cruises are great as you get to meet others and wake up in a different city each day. Id love to do a NIle cruise one year (but would be an organised one with escorted tours all in for safety and not sure.
There are some deals with the cruise liners but they can be expensive in the holidays as you get single supplements.
Another friend went on her own with Archers direct who shes used a few times and liked.
Im 36 so dont think Id go on the 18-30 hols either now lol (but did go on a twentys holiday with a friend to Turkey in the past which was good fun!)
I work in a College and the summer prices really annoy me:rolleyes: this August Im off to Brighton for 5 days, booked a travelodge bargin:D
Hope you manage to find a good break/place to visit.Sealed Pot Challenge number 8 Amount declared £365.50.

I'm a woman in my 30s and have just split from my long term boyfriend. It's not stopping me going on holidays - I've just booked myself a week's holiday in Berlin. It's a place I know quite well with loads to see, and I can speak the language fairly well so I thought it was the ideal place to "test the water" as a singleton! I'm really looking forward to having a selfish holiday where I can go where I want when I want and have what I want to eat - and then crash in my hotel early ready to do it all again the next day!
