                    can anyone help?
I have recently divorced (a very horrible marriage). I am thinking of going on holiday by myself. I am only 32 but all my friends are couply and/or with children. I am a teacher so can only go during the school holidays.
Could anyone recommend any companies or suggest any places/ holidays to help me not feel a total sad case but rather a person determined to find herself again and prove she can do it.
Many thanks

Are you looking for a UK holiday or one abroad? How long would you like to get away for?0

You might find that a holiday where you can do some kind of activity (walking/cooking/sport etc.) is easier for your first trip on your own. Then at least you know you'll be with like minded people.0

            Hi
I was thinking a maximum of 7 days in case I find it too hard.
I am really up for anything so uk or abroad would be good.
Probably around a max of £500-£600 if at all poss0 -
What sort of holidays do you like? beaches, sightseeing, touring, road trips etc?
I found that organised tours or singles holiday companies tend to be really expensive - you could either maybe join an online site to make friends with similar interests, ie most activities have some sort of online forum and then you may find other single people up for doing new things - or think about couchsurfing with female hosts maybe?
I had to start again at your age so know how difficult it is when most friends are settled down and most people are not up for doing single type friends holidays. I've since made new friends and been all over the place!0 -
I love sightseeing and really fancy a bit of action (oh god that sounds awful) but you know what I mean...something to do.
Thanks so much for the idea and it's great to think that I will be ok. You feel a bit of an old leper! but I figure bite the bullet0 -

Get yourself on a 18 - 30 mate.
2 weeks of hedonism, booze and sex - your marriage will be yesterdays news and you'll come back revived and ready to take on the world

Hahahaha - I'm 32 though, they will kick me out for lying or make me go to bed early0

The first time I went away on my own for a holiday was to Reykjavic in Iceland - about 9 years ago now. Since then I've regularly gone solo (about 50% of the time) and really enjoyed it. Iceland was very good because there were loads of day trips to sign up for via the tourist office and I easily got chatting to other people. I find city breaks are good solo trips as you can fill the day with loads of sightseeing which is fine on your own. Also I tend to get so knackered during the day by walking everywhere that in the evening I just want dinner and then to crash.
I also found Munich a good solo location. Everyone was really friendly and several of my guide books reckoned it was the singles capital of Europe! Also Prague and Krakow.
I find when I go away on my own I tend to make sure I get a really comfy hotel. Always seems more important to me somehow when I'm on my own. I'm much more prepared to rough it when I go with a partner or friend.
I also find it more important to plan ahead when travelling solo. If there isn't anyone to share a laugh with when it all goes a bit pear shaped it feels a little more awkward.
Incidentally I've also done a lot of walking holidays in Switzerland. There are some lovely mountain resorts and the walking routes are really fool proof. It's a very organised country right down to the footpaths!Yeah, whatever. I'm a grown up, I can take it...0
