Aarrgghh. Read it swap it paperback received this morning. None listed on amazon, 2 buyers waiting, cheapest book on bookfinder £20. Looking good.

But. The swapper put it in an unpadded envelope and wrote my name and address in her hardest biro handwriting, right across the front cover.

Grrrrr. I've had to scribble over it through a layer of tracing paper as don't want to sell it with my name and address for all to see. Therefore have had to knock the price down and call it acceptable rather than very good. Not the easiest situation to describe either, just said it has scribbling indentations visible when held up to light.

What would others say when leaving feedback on risi? Even if I wasn't swapping to sell, it is a shame to ruin the look of a book like that - or am I being a grumpy old git? Got a cold from hell, so feeling a bit narky anyway!
  • Has anyone been finding sales slow over the last week or two? I went three days last week without selling one! I did manage to sell two over the weekend but it has all gone quiet again.
  • Absolutely pear shaped here - I haven't sold one since last thursday....

purple, I know what you mean - on one hand it's a free book but on the other it was a silly thing to do....if only they could all be like us?!? :A ...

Purple, I know what you mean, it just seems so wrong to desecrate a book. I hate getting a library book out and finding the pages are sticky, or someone has turned down a corner of a page to mark their place.

As for being slow, I never sell a lot despite having well over a hundred book listed. I probably sell only about 2 or 3 books a week at the moment.

I had a good result yesterday (I hope!), my locla library had received a donation of books which they didn't want so I bought a bag load for 40p each. They have a library discard stamp but are otherwise in good condition. Two of them are duffs ie selling for less than £2 which wouldn't turn a profit after fees and postage. The rest though look OK, a couple have only one or two other copies listed in the £20 and £30 mark, so fingers crossed.

In th epast month I have actually sold more on ebay than through Amazon, but I hope Amazon will pick up soon.

Don't give up hope as I've had a very slow month, but yesterday rather weirdly I sold 4 books (3 of them in the space of 50 minutes) and one of them was a £30 one. Then this morning, listed a book at 10.48 and it sold at 11.07!
  • The two books i sold over the weekend do make up for the lack of sales (one for £28 and one for £11) but it has put my mind at rest that i am not the only slow one. Thanks everyone!

    (Sorry)

Couldn't resist it with my risi swapper - gave her 5 stars but a little comment about it being a shame about the heavy indent of my name and address across the author's face. Hope that wasn't too mean, she's a newbie so it might stop her doing it again.

ps - sorry if it's anyone off here although doubt any of you would be giving away a twenty quid book ;)
  • My sales over the last 2 weeks are virtually dead - but at least today I sold 20 jiffy bags on ebay!
I'm sorry but I'm not Mike!

Hallelujah!!! Two sales today. Only four in total last week, but all cheapo books so no real profit. It is so annoying as I cannot get to a Poundland shop to buy the 8 for £1.00 jiffies, I have to pay £1.00 for four. Incidentally Sainsburys are selling bubble wrap for £1.49 a roll which is a lot cheaper than other places. I am using that plus their economy brown envelopes £1.17 for 25. Sainsburys also sell jiffy bags 3 for 99p but they are very good quality and I save them for real money sales, plus they are bigger than the poundland ones. Someone bought me 5 packs from the Poundland in Brighton, but I am running out of them.

I tend to keep the jiffy bags for when I have to rush a book off in my lunch hour, but it is annoying having to pay so much for them!!!!!
