I've had some of my microfiber cloths for, um, must be about 2/3 years now - and they still look like new! I bought them in Dunelm. They were just under £1 each at the time and worth every penny. I leant a few to some nieghbours to try - and oddly enough never got them back, lol. Thing is, as they're bright orange you can tell when they're using them to wash their windows ;)

Mine have lasted years so far, and no signs of any wear. I don't think you need to worry about budgetting for new ones!

Have had mine since we moved in here, which is 6 years ago. Some are showing signs of wear and tear, the pile is missing in places (if you see what I mean) - but no holes. I have a lot so don't use them every week. Bought mine from Savers, and have Dunelm's too.

They will last for ages - not a short term thing like those yellow dusters!

I've been using mine for about a year now and they're still going strong. There's a good thread here on caring for them: looking after your microfibre cloths

I do basically the same as nicki (tea towels, dish cloths etc all in together). If some have been standing a little longer than normal or got muckier than normal (eg boys used to mop up milk - yeurgh) I'll give them a prewash with a little vinegar.

  • I use microcloths every day - clean the bathroom, kitchen etc and for just about every cleaning task you can think of. I even cleaned a very dirty pink carpet with one once. I have found that the ones I got from poundland have been fantastic, they get washed with whatever is getting washed each day. The ones from tesco just don't seem to be lasting as long. The only thing I don't wash them with is the towel cos I was told that the microcloths would try and 'grab' the fluffy bits on the towels. Never tried so can't comment.

  • Bought my first microcloths over 4 years ago - that was an expensive one and I was very precious about using:confused: Then about 3 years ago poundland opened near me and I bought several and I am still using them. Have bought many since then so that I can colour code their use but can't see me throwing any away just yet.

Losing them though thats another matter as my DS decides to borrow one to clean his bike or whatever and some how it never finds its way back home:o :o:o

(I have bought 2 from home and bargain at 39p each as someone said they used 1 wet and 1 dry. (Do I need more?)
    Thanks for all your help

Depends on how often you intend to wash them and what you intend to use them for, really. I use them for pretty well everything, and obviously the ones you use for the loo you can't use in any other room (to quote Anf, 'pink for the sink and blue for the loo'! ). Actually, I've demoted all my old cotton ones to be loo cloths, so there's no chance of mixing them up!

Other than that, I bought all mine at Poundland - 4/pack (for a pound, obviously), different colours and slightly different lengths of fibre; supposed to be for kitchen (pink), bathroom (blue), glass (yellow) and dusting (green), I think, but I don't bother about that. I throw them into the top tray of the dishwasher each night, and then give them a hot wash once a week.

I do this because you shouldn't use fabric conditioner on your microfibre cloths and I admit to using it in nearly all my wash loads, plus the only things I regularly wash on a 60C wash are bedding and towels that I like to use softener with.

Shouldn't use it with towels, either - it reduces their ability to absorb water, so it makes the towel's function a bit redundant.

I love all the micro cloths apart from tesco economy I have found that after a few uses they start to smell even after bleaching they still smell havent had this prob with any of the others

Glad someone else has had this problem - thought they were brill the first time, but found they stank even after putting them in the dishwasher, and now they've got sort of brown stains on them that even Stardrops doesn't shift - almost looks like scorch marks. My Poundland ones seem to clean a lot better and they themselves are easier to clean - a session in the dishwasher removes any smell, and then I just stick them in a bag after they're dry and wash them along with my towels in a hot wash.

Great idea to put it in the dishwasher. I have several and am real fussy about cloths only being used on the day you get them out clean and then being washed - I heard once about all the bacteria in damp cloths so never use the same ones the next day, your tip will save me buying more
