- Mix syrup ingredients together, *word has been censored * hot cakes with a skewer or fork and pour the syrup over. Leave in tin to cool completely.
many thanks to sandy2 for posting this recipe AND also to the OP. I've used it today (first time lemon drizzle cake maker) and the result was fantastic.
OH actually said it's one of the nicest cakes he's ever tasted - so I'm very proud of it. I did it in a 2lb loaf tin and needed to cover the top with a sealed foil lid to stop it from rising to too much of a peak and going brown instead of golden. Very moist and lemony!0 -
Hi,
I thought I would share this with you - it's the recipe I use for the simplest, but yummiest drizzle cake ever. You simply mix all the ingredients together, whack it in a pan and bake for 40 mins :j .
Lemon / orange drizzle cake:
100g soft butter / margarine
175g caster sugar
175g self-raising flour
1 teaspoon baking powder
2 large eggs
4 tablespoons milk
zest of 1 lemon or orange
Crunchy topping:
Juice of 1 lemon / orange
100g caster sugar
Method:
Pre-heat oven to 180 degrees C
Beat all cake ingredients together until smooth and fluffy. Pour into a greased and lined 7" cake tin (I use a 900g loaf tin and this works too). Bake for 40 minutes. Cake is ready when a skewer inserted into the middle comes out cleam.
Mix together the lemon / orange juice with the caster sugar. !!!!! the surface of the still hot cake with a skewer or fork, then pour over the sugar mix. Leave the cake in the tin to cool, then turn out and eat.
I hope this is in the right place, if not, please feel free to move it.

Very similar to the one that I use (posted on here by one of the members) and it's delicious. Mine uses icing sugar instead of caster in the 'drizzle'.
Every time I make it, my kids seem to zoom in on my house and devour the lot before OH gets a slice - need to start stashing a couple of slices just for him!0 -

As I have a few lemons left over from last weekend (bought in for celebrating birthday - for G & T's) am going to bite the bullet and give this a go. Not baked cakes for years - Hobnobs or soda bread usually most adventurous baking! Fingers crossed!"Keep smiling, it makes people wonder what you are up to........"
Dieting ........... is no piece of cake!!!!:D

I love lemon drizzle cake, its so easy to make and always gets compliments - I make them for the kids school fayres when they send a request home for cakes.
I also use a loaf tin and liners from lakeland (not exactly moneysaving I know but...) http://www.lakeland.co.uk/F/product/5552_7321_5553_6545
but before that just use to line tin in normal baking parchment stuff0 -
Hi v8monkeyboy,
Your recipe sounds virtually identical to the Mary Berry version of lemon drizzle cake that I make...it's a lovely cake and a firm family favourite here
I've added your thread to the existing thread on drizzle cakes to keep the recipes together.
