I tried to order something from Play yesterday, my last order being at the beginning of April - couldn't access my account. Too late to phone the number and thought it might be a temporary glitch so left it til this afternoon. Same thing - couldn't access my account, nor would the email reminder work. Got DH to phone when he came in as a/c in his name. Once they had verified who we were they said it wasn't good news - they had suspended the account due to suspected fraudulent activity. 2 orders were placed on 14th April for PS3 games, one at £34.99 and one at £39.99. I confirmed that we had not placed these orders, and was told the address was Perth Road in Ilford, Essex. She immediately requested a refund and said that as soon as it shows up on the credit card statement we should phone back and close all three accounts we have there. (1 is inactive, and we have accounts registered to my email and DH email so we can't see what we have bought each other!! Both are in DH name and both have same CC registered.) She also advised informing CC company.
Have to say she couldn't have been more helpful, and when DH phoned CC they advised cutting up card and said they would contact Play to follow up, even though Play are refunding the money.
My only gripe would be that if they suspected fraudulent activity why did they not alert us?0 -
I think its shocking that i have not had any warning, just as well i replaced my credit card details with test one's0

Because they don't want to admit that it is a security breach on their part. The less people that know about it the better.
If it wasn't for people posting in this thread you wouldn't find just how widespread it is.0 -
Thanks to the warnings in this thread I have changed my card details with Play. Shortly after I had an email saying my transaction couldn't be processed because my card had been refused. I hadn't ordered anything and there is nothing in my outstanding orders so it could just be a standard email (and my account has now been suspended) but I am very grateful for the warnings. Thanks everyone.A [STRIKE]B[/STRIKE][STRIKE]C [/STRIKE]D E [STRIKE]F[/STRIKE]G H I J K L M N O P Q R S [STRIKE]T[/STRIKE]U V [STRIKE]W [/STRIKE]X Y Z0

If you are going to change your credit card details on your account make sure you empty your playtrade account. My friend was hit by the play scam so I decided to put dummy credit card details on my account. I got the same email that some of you got, but in addition they have closed my playtrade account and the money I had in it has gone. Luckily I did spend most of it beforehand as I was concerned about someone having access to this cash, but there was a few quid left. So, if you are going to put in the dummy/test credit card details bear this in mind.0

how strange, they suspended my listings but I still have access to the money - I can't spend it unless I change my card details back to 'real' ones until the order has been dispatched but I definitely haven't lost the money. Luckily there's not too much in there and I know what I'm going to buy with it so soon there won't be any - I just don't want to pay the 5% fee to transfer it out.2008: £783.12 - 2009: £6,401.15 - 2010: £4,230.61 - 2011: £8720 - 2012: £2,041.89
2013: £134.960
