I agree that the clean should be more in depth after a pet has stayed. And I dont object to paying the extra £10 as its worth that to me to have the privilage of taking the dog with me. However I do object to the terms being altered after I have booked and paid.
I have a 3 night break booked at 3 different travelodges, so hence it will be £60, if I had realised the change in policy I would perhaps just had the 3 nights at the one hotel.
The change wont stop me using travelodges and I am grateful the management don't share your opinion, I personally dont understand how you can hate people who cant leave the house without a pet attached to their hip, live and let live.

perhaps hate isnt the right word, more abide......

But the terms havent changed, there has never been a right to take a dog to any hotel for £10, it has always been at the discretion of the manager. so what have you done in the past? booked the room, and then contacted the hotel for permission? What happened if they said no? would you have forgone the holiday, or made alternative arrangements for your pet?

The T&C also say you have to ring the hotel, after booking, to get permission you can bring a pet. well i suppose some people take that to mean the day before they arrive, but i would assume it meant straight after placing the booking

however, since you booked prior to the price increase it does seem a bit off, but i suppose the fact you havent paid for the privilige until you arrive, means you pay the rate on the day. Much like Argos' ring and reserve

I have to admit I didn't realise that Travelodge DID allow dogs into rooms at ANY price. Won't stay at Travelodge again, find it totally off putting.
Just like I've never bought a house that's had a resident dog. Sorry but i think this is just plain unacceptable.
Unless maybe like they have rooms for smokers perhaps they can keep some rooms solely for people with their animals so the rest of us don't have to be in a room a dog has been in previously. Must suggest that to them.

Surely a dog is more likely to crap on the carpet then a child though? Or at least thats what I'd expect. And not everyones dog may not be as clean as yours, personally I wouldn't want to stay in a room where a dog had previously been if it was flea infested.

I think you'll find that people who bother to take their dog away on trips with them are very responsible pet owners & have clean, well-cared for animals. They would NOT allow their pet's flea treatment to lapse nor, as you so politely say, "crap on the carpet" or lay on the bed.

You will find that flea infestations are very prevalent in children. Kids can also "crap on the carpet" besides make continual noise, running up & down corridors & banging on doors etc. Not to mention snotty noses etc. Responsible dog owners are much more caring & in control of their pets, than parents who usually let their kids do just what they want & run wild in hotels!

I am just saying this as pets cost has been increased 100% with no warning or notification & kids go free - goodness knows why?

The things I have done in the past have been the method requested by the Travelodge. You could not book online & were told to ring the hotel. If you rang the hotel too early you were told to ring nearer the stay as they had no facility to book in advance. When enquiring if it was possible they would not accept dog at that time, then were told they would accept a dog but ring a few days before arrival so they will expect it & pay on arrival only!

THIS WAS THE INSTRUCTION GIVEN BY TRAVELODGE & I HAVE STAYED AT SEVERAL THROUGHOUT 2008.

I made my bookings in 2008 for stays in 2009 on the terms prevailing at the time I booked & paid for the stays - I always take my dog. At no time was I informed of a 100% increase on dog charge for stays I had already booked.

I stayed in Travelodge just outside Ipswich last Nov - there were a few 2 legged-dogs there! Headboards were banging all night & cars coming & going at all times! Obviously some girls earning their living?
Perhaps you ought to suggest they keep these human 'dogs' out of certain rooms too while you are at it! :T

Dear Flea - What you assume is wrong! You can disregard what the T&C said (it is in their interests to quote that formality now)! In reality when ringing hotels to book a dog you were always told to ring much nearer the time of stay (ie few days before) to inform them to expect a dog as they had no facility to take bookings for dogs too far in advance!! The five I stayed at ALL operated on this basis, & all of them I rang when booked & was told the same thing (in fact they were surprised I rang so far in advance!).
I shall ignore your stupid remark re Argos ring & reserve - I was taking my dog into a room already reserved & paid for with nothing such as dog food, bed, towel, water bowl or any facility for her provided - so where does ring & reserve come into it?

Don't get me wrong, I appreciate you can take dog with you to Travelodge, & glad they now have proper booking facility online for this. What I object to is them raising the cost by 100% & informing no-one in their frequent newsletter. Then charging this for stays in 2009, which were booked & paid for in 2008, & on the terms prevailing at that time when there no facilities to book dogs in advance & cost was £10 per dog. Surely they should honour this as a matter of goodwill???

why stupid? - i was just pointing out, its a case of you pay the price on the day. In the same way, that if you stay at a hotel and use facilities that arent included in the price, you would pay for these separately at check-out, and would therefore pay the price on the day

As travelodge didnt have an option to book dogs into a room in advance, then one can only assume that you would pay the price on the day

But seeing as this is supposed to be moneysaving, i would print out the T&C from last year, and argue it with the staff on the spot once at the travelodge, stating i booked the room at this price, with the option to book a pet for £10. I doubt emailing head office, will get you anywhere, but speaking to staff direct might

I must admit I don't like pets and would not want to stay knowing dogs were allowed in the rooms but I do agree with your arguments it is unfair to hike the price. I would get to the Travel Lodge with a screen shot and point blank refuse to pay more than the £10 and put them on the spot.

Also feel there are being some less than courteous posts being made and those parties should read this to the right of the site screen: -

Pls be nice to all MoneySavers. There's no such thing as a stupid question, and even if you disagree courtesy helps.

Just to say that I stayed at Travelodge Dartford last friday night, having booked a £19 room some time ago....room Ok as usual - basic but clean. But in the morning there was no hot water.....had to boil the kettle to have a wash......

Complained to Travelodge HQ by email when I got home and earlier today had an email advising that the complaint had been passed to the Dartford lodge for action. This afternoon got a phone call from them to advise that they would refund the whole booking fee because of the issue. :T

I've already got some future rooms booked, but this swift action has certainly made me feel well-disposed towards Travelodge and more likely to use them again. - good to see good customer service for once!
