Not according to my reply from them.

"With the Egg card you only get cash back with selected online retailers.

With the Egg Money card you can get 1% cash back on all purchases and upto 20% cash back with selected online retailers.

This reflects the difference between Egg Money and Egg Card, which are two completely different products. The recommended card for cashback is Egg Money, which does give 1% cashback on everything, as stated in the reply you have got. When people say that they have an "Egg card", it can be quite confusing as to whether they mean "Egg [Money] card" or "Egg Card"!

Is the Egg card Visa or Mastercard? Already have a Mastercard but would like a Visa card.

The Egg Money card (with the better cashback) is Mastercard. The Egg Card (without such good cashback) is Visa.

I'm slightly fed up with Amex Platinum. Having read the article, I decided that this was likely to be the best card for me as I'm getting married this summer. We've saved up for everything already but thought we'd make our money work a little bit wiser by using a Cashback card to pay for everything and then pay if off with our savings when due.

So, I double-checked Amex's criteria, felt happy that I should be eligible and applied online before sitting back to await the arrival of my new card. Said card has never arrived, instead a letter saying that I did not meet Amex's criteria. Slightly confused, I phoned their customer service department who told me that they could not tell me their criteria and but the person I spoke to saw no reason for the rejection and suggested I write in. So I posted the letter and heard nothing so phoned again and still couldn't be told anything! Finally a letter arrived, saying they had reconsidered my application but I was still not eligible but I still don't know why!

Has anyone else had these difficulties? It seems ridiculous that I can't find out why they've rejected my application!

I'm exactly the same! I'm fortunate to be on a decent wage but felt I needed a bit more security and wanted a cashback card - hence went for the Amex Platinum. I literally don't owe anyone a penny and own my own house, car, etc (which I understand can give a bad credit rating) but they still knocked me back saying that I did not meet their criteria. I explained that I was just about to do out a new house and would be spending lots of money on this card and was just told to 're-apply'. This was 4 days ago so lets just see if they are bothered!!

It is very good, but it is no longer available to new customers!

I also received the mailshot from Citibank offering a 1% Cashback credit card on the first £3000 spent every month. This should be enough for most people. I will be applying!

I did ring them to find out if my girlfriend could be sent a form, but they said it was only for those people who have been selected. Is anyone going to try and photocopy the application form and try it? It does seem to have a pre-printed code so it may be tied to whomever it was sent to.

I have an Egg Card (Visa) and Egg Money (Mastercard).

I tend to only use the Egg Money card (1% cashback) as the Egg Card doesn't pay cashback for all transactions.

Is there any reason for keeping the Egg Card now? Do the retailer instant cashback offers differ between the 2 cards?
