I have also this week received a letter from Morgan Stanley informing me that as from June 1st they will be charging me £20 to use their card.I took this card at Martin's suggestion as I am a very low user of credit cards(I'm a pensioner) & have only accrued £10.59 cashback bonus & if I am to believe previous comments then I will receive none of the cashback owing to me as I have not accrued £15 since I joined last May.What a let down & disappointment.Where do I go from here I wonder?0

I forgot to mention in my previous comment that it is advisable to write to the company concerned when cancelling a credit card & ask them to send confimation in writing otherwise you may stay on their books for quite a while even though you are no longer officially with them!0

Can someone tell me when the 3% introductory offer came in? I took out an Amex Platinum credit card for the sake of the cashback, following Martin's recommendation. I can't remember what exactly the prospects were at teh time but it seemed worth doing. Now, on the anniversary of the card, I get £38 from spending over £5000, which doesn't seem very much. I can't imagine I'd have bothered taking it out for that, but obviously I haven't had 3% for any of that.
So either (a) they've made a mistake or (b) this came in after I'd signed up. I do seem to remember something in Martin's newsletter about a change in Amex. Does anyone know?
Can't remember when the offer came in but the rates are as follows:
0 - £3,500 (0.5%), £3,501 - £10,000 (1%), £10,001+ (1.5%)
and the intoductory offer was 3% for the first 3 months.0 -
Hi guys, I don't know if this is the right place to post, but any advise would be much appreciated! I've just paid off my £1700 student overdraft :T and am now debt free (apart from student loan which comes directly out of my wages every month). I've always been warned off credit cards, but this cashback thing sounds like a better way to spend during the month.
My question is, is there any way of checking throughout the month the balance on the credit card so you know how much you've spent? At the mo I religiously check my bank balance every day (a bit obsessive I know but it helps me keep track of things so I don't go overdrawn). I wouldn't want a shock at the end of the month and have spent more than I had and go overdrawn.
Thanks guysQuit smoking 12th July 07 :j0 -
With both the Morgan Stanley card and the Yorkshire Building Society card you can check you balance on-line and see the transactions in more or less "real time".What part of "A whop bop-a-lu a whop bam boo" don't you understand?0

You can check online with Amex and Egg.
Egg also text you every week to tell you what you have spent so far in the month.

What about Citi Platinum MasterCard with Travel Rewards. If you spend £5000+ a year you can get up to 1% back which can be used against any travel payment (based on £15000 spend over three years and used against single travel purchase of £150 or over). Most people will take holiday or some kind of travelling within three year period.
The card also includes: Citi Identity Theft Solutions, Safer Online Shopping, Active fraud protection, Price match guarantee, additional 12 months extended warranty, Free purchase protection.
As far as I can see this card is one of the best value for money without fee. Plus you will get £40 against travel payment for taking the card.0 -
I'm just about to close my Morgan Stanley because of fee charged. Being a basic rate pensioner I want to make the most of any offers available. Have just enquired about the Egg Money - BUT they tell me it isn't 1pc on all purchases. It now depends on what merchants are registered with them and they don't have a list to advise us.So, example - if I buy groceries at Somerfields I may find only Sainsburys are in the scheme!!!!! This seems a rather hit-and-miss card now. What do others feel?0

The card you will need is Egg Money. This card still pays cashback:
You'll get 4% gross pa/AER variable on positive balances in your Egg Money account.
1% cash back on all purchases.
Up to 20% cash back with our selected online retailers.
A typical rate of 7.9% APR variable, if you go into the red.
We do not charge a fee for cash withdrawals.
Optional free weekly text balance updates - helping you keep on top of your spending.
Interest free period of up to 50 days on all purchases, if you pay outstanding
balance off in full each month.

You may of course get more cashback than that if you follow the links on their website to their instant cashback partners though.
Who are the "they" that told you otherwise? It sounds like a worrying contradiction...0
