Further to my post above I applied on-line for an Eggmoney card. This was followed by a phone call saying they needed to ask a few questions to check financial situation. I've never had issues before and certainly not aware of any, so was suspicious. When I was told it would take about 30mins, I was even more suspicious. Situation became very clear after 2-3 mins, it was a sales pitch. Net result, I stopped the conversation and told the caller I wasn't interested in a sales pitch or an Eggmoney card. I will be making a formal complaint.

How odd?
My online Egg application was processed and took about 1minute. I got my Egg card within a few days - and NO phone calls were made to me!
What were they trying to sell you?I am NOT a Woman! - its Overland Landy (as in A Landrover that travels Overland)

Me too. Received the MBNA letter yesterday, so applied for an Egg Money card straight away and was accepted.
It's all a bit of a drag though as I too had only had the MBNA card a few months.
I phoned Egg to inquire how long they would be continuing the cashback deal and guess what... they wouldn't say.
Still, I'll run with it while it is available.0 -
Have used Conran card for 18 months or so since seeing it tipped on this website and it has been excellent so was rather dismayed when i received the letter from MBNA last week.
Egg Money card looks a good alternative but am I right in thinking that this is in effect a savings account from which your card payments will be automatically deducted each month i.e. you have to guess how much you're likely to need each month and pay the money up front into the Egg Money account? And what happens if you spend more on the Egg Money card than what you've paid into the account for that month... interest charges no doubt. If this is the case, Egg Money will not be for me. Only option left will be the Morgan Stanley Platinum card.
Any feedback from existing users of either the Egg Money or MS Platinum cards would be greatly appreciated.0 -

No, Dan -- the EggMoney card works just like a normal credit card only you have the option to put it in credit & earn 4% [or something] on the credit balance. But you don't have to. You can keep it at zero & then when you spend you get a negative balance and [how many? I don't know] days to pay [via DD - that's the only payment method they accept] just like a regular CC. No interest to pay provided you remember to choose the "full balance" payment option when you set up your DD payment. Only thing is, they don't seem to be committing themselves to continue paying the cashback, judging by other posters' comments. It's a great 'mule' card for stoozing though - and they pay you cashback on the funds! (read the thread about it on https://www.stoozing.com)Expect the worst & hope for the best...0 -

But what should I do after the 3% cashback ends on 1st July? Do I carry on using it or apply for an egg card or Amex?
Firstly, it depends on your earnings - as a poorly-paid ICT Tech', the Amex is out of my league. :-(
Secondly, it also seems to depend if and/or when you are to exceed the threshold annual(?) spend amount, when the MSP card steps down to the "basic" 0.5%.The acquisition of wealth is no longer the driving force in my life.0 -
Can someone point out where the eggmoney site mentions 1% cashback. All I can find is a glorified quidco system, where if you go to certain retailers via their site, you get cashback, but no mention of cashback on normal purchases.0

It mentions that the 1% is only guaranteed until 2007 - I believe Egg are reviewing the future of the cashback.0 -

Has anybody with an Amex Platinum card, as recommended by Martin, worked out how / if / whether we will actually get the 3%?
The statements give no clue as to how the amount is worked out, all they are doing is doubling my eligable spend at the moment, which will simply result in 1% cashback at the end of the year instead of the 0.5% tier.
India are totally clueless, as per usual. It would be easy, given Amex's lack of accountability on the phone (India call centre that cannot do anything) to simply ignore the 3% for 3 months offer on the anniversary date and just pay the regular amount. Or am I being far too cynical, even for Amex?
Call me old fashioned, but I just like to see things in writing to know where I stand.
At least with my Morgan Stanley card the bonus amount was clearly shown each time round and I dealt with a GB call center....0
