Hi, this is the Daily Thread for Tuesday 3 March 2009. This is an 'Over the garden fence' type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or slow internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred.
When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly, but if not, it's not a problem.
Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two Daily Threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new Daily Thread after they get up in the morning.
Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “Hi everyone, hope you are all well” type start is just as good!
Good morning! I'm not going to make a habit of this, woke early again with my brain "running" all over the place...... So, thought I'd get up for a while and be productive rather than lie in bed and fester, as it were :rotfl: :rotfl:
Well, yesterday was enlightening and it showed me the areas that I've got to do some more work in, which was the whole point of the exercise. I don't want to wish my life away, but it's going to be a quick year!
It's cold here now, there's been a few heavy hail showers during the night but the snow wasn't lying. Hope it doesn't lie too much on the mainland, as I've got to drive down the A9 on Thursday  Time will tell.
As I'm going away, I'm planning a bit of a cook-a-thon this evening, so that DH won't starve when I'm away
A couple of pans of soup so that I can freeze them for his lunches as well as a mince based meal that he can have in the freezer - likely to be chilli. Also planning on making a carrot and coconut cake too. As a result, I splashed out yesterday and bought Tesco's meal for £9 for our dnner this evening.
[STRIKE]Well, I'm away to catch up on the thread from yesterday[/STRIKE]
Dazi - Hope you had a lovely birthday?
OrkneyStar - you have my sympathies, nothing worse than a sore back - hope you're feeling better?
Sunnygirl - are you on the mend? V&D can knock the stuffing out of you.
WannabeSybil - how's the shoulder? Sounds painful, especially if you've aggravated an old injury.
VastSarah - I hope that your son's okay after his accident?
Bargainbird - thanks for the BNS soup recipe, that might be one that I'll mae tonight, as I've got all the ingredients in for it.
Hope you all have a good OS day - Hugs to all those not feeling 100% or who need one.

Well I've been up for hours... but I'm in India at the moment staying with my friend. It is 36 degrees and so I'm going to the swimming pool with my friend's daughter. She is actually a brilliant competition swimmer (came 2nd in National trials aged 14) so a float and wallow for me.
Everything here is OS in that everything is used, re-used and used again.
I'm bringing back lots of carrier bags, but as they are made of hessian I can use them over and over again.
Also bought some dining room curtain material.. excellent quality and only 85p a metre!!! It is about time we replaced the worn out old ones 36 years old.
Enjoy your day0 -
Hello Nessie, M.E. and all who follow!
Haven't been around online for a few days so haven't caught up on the threads so apologies for that. I will read up and comment later if that is OK.
I have been up since about 0300 'cos Tristan is back in hospital and I received an email asking me to be here, so I am. Apparently they operated on him two days ago and is all IV-ed up to pain relief now.
So I have been talking to him (well, typing to him!) for nearly two hours now. He is fairly lucid but I have been warned by our mutual friend that he tends to hit the morphine button a lot and so he might drift off on me while we talk, and his typing is getting a little dodgy now.
So far he has been almost like his old self though, flirting like mad and laughing at me on cam when I roll my eyes at him! In the serious moments he tells me he is feeling like sh*t and that he loves me. I can't hear either of those statements without crying but it upsets him to see me cry on cam so I try and stop! I will stay with him til he falls asleep or til his family comes back in about three hours so will be up for a while yet.
Anyway, this is the OS board so better mention something OS before I give all my attention back to him. We had a delicious roast pork dinner last night and had friends round to eat with us which was lovely. Will be left overs tonight with fresh roasties. I made that fantastic broccolli and lemon and parmesan thing in the oven too and we all loved it. Most of last thursdays baking has been eaten but we still have lots of home made ginger nuts left that are heavenly dunked!
I am sorry not to be more personal, but I will catch up with everyone later. I hope you all have a good day today and warm gentle hugs to anyone who needs them.

Hi Nessie - hope you don't get too many problems with the snow up there. I think we'd all hoped that Spring was finally here, hadn't we?
Well, my time is disappearing rapidly. We have finalised our date for moving to France and we leave on the 21st of this month, so now I'm in panic mode - so much to do and so little time. We have to pack things and tie up loose ends here, and arrange things for the other end. We already have the phone connected there, but need the internet to be organised - I really can't do without that!
I'm so glad we're coming back in August - it's when my new grandchild is due. I just hope I can last out until then! Hopefully, Skype will keep me going! At least I'll be able to talk to the family and see them at the same time. Every time I think about leaving them all, it hurts my heart, but I keep thinking that other people survive it so I shall, too! I have orders for things to take out with me. Friends of ours there run a fish and chip business which is very popular, with the French as well as the ex-pats, and they have asked me to take out some Tesco Value SR flour; the French SR has sugar in it, which makes it unsuitable for fish batter, so we shall take a good supply over for them.
Well, I barely have enough time to touch base here at the moment. I hope for a more peaceful time in France, once we're settled in, and will be able to keep up to date with you all.
I'm collecting the grandchildren from school this afternoon and bringing them back for dinner, so I'm looking forward to that. Dinner is undecided but will include chips for DGS and pasta for DGD!
Anyway, I hope everyone is well and that no-one is affected by the bad weather that's been predicted in some areas.
(((Hugs))) to all those who are unwell or anxious.

MSD - lots of (((Hugs))) to Tristan; it's very hard for you and tragic for him and his family. I'm so pleased he seems like his old self at times; it will make it a little easier to bear the pain and sadness. (((Hugs))) to you both.

Thank you Moiliere, that was lovely.
I did forget to say thank you to everyone for their continued thoughts and prayers, it means a lot. And yes, every minute I get with him is precious.

Mioliere - I hope everything is going well in your preparation for moving to France. It sounds lovely, but I'm sure you've got 101 things to do.... Look forward to hearing all about it when you get over and get connected.
MSD - good to hear that you've been able to communicate with Tristan for a while longer. Thinking of you both.0 -
Nesssie - thanks for that! I hope to be back online the minute I arrive in France!
