Hi my brother has taken on a flat which has the most filthy toilet, he's tried getting it off with limescale remover products from the store but they haven't worked and smell awful. Does anyone have any old fashioned tips which would help get it clean the old fashioned way. Oh he can't use bleach he's allergic

If it is a hard water type stain I find getting the rubber gloves on and using an old pumice stone on it works very well.

Not cheap but Dambuster is excellent. get it from Grahams or similar plumbers. It is really for clearing drains but is mostly sulphuric acid so needs to be handled with care. (ruined my trainers) but it gets the worst bod clean like new.

Heat up some white vinegar in a jug
get rid of as much water as you can by 'pushing' it down the u-bend with the toilet brush. Pour hot white vinegar all around the bowl so it gets under the rim and leave it to sit in the pan, it should come to the existing water line if you can use that much!
leave as long as you can. 30 minutes minimum, then give it a good brush and leave some more if you can. When you flush, the scale should be a lot easier to remove, repeat as necessary.

Typing error but not excusable since the d is not next to the g.
However I have discovered robert dyas do a cheaper alternative to dambuster. I think its just called drain unblocker and is 95% sulphuric acid so use carefully but it is lethal on limescale. Its about £6.50 a litre

I've heard denture cleaner tablets work also, very Kim and Aggie. These are also really cheap. Plop a couple in and leave to sit for a few hours.
