Now im really annoyed had 5 lots of stuff being picked up today and only 2 of them turned up one at 9am when she said she was coming and one at 5pm when he said he was coming so i have sat here waiting all day for the others for no bloody reason and have not heard a word from them

I do sympathise - two things to do...

1 - Report timewasters to your moderator - if they are worth their salt (some are and some are not) they will put a strike against the member and may even put an ADMIN not out about it.

2 - Tell prospective gift recivers that if they are not there on time you will bag it and put it out side (I have a storm porch which I use as a holding ground) and if somone "nicks" said item it is obviously of value to them so you have fulfilled the purpose of Freecycle anyway. (you could even put a slip of paper on the item with your local Freecycle url)

    Cheers

    Hi.. new to this..

when you post an offer, should it show up straight away.. or can you not see your own messages?

posted one ages ago and its not visible, needed to edit it if possible..

    thanks
  • Hiya,
I wondered if there was someone who could help me??
I have tried to join Freecycle in my area - West Suffolk - and have had no success. i sent an email as requested and have had no reply, twice.
Should I just keep trying or is there something else I could try?

    Thanks :)

I used the link on second post http://freecycle.org/display.php?region=International - worked fine :-)
  • I moderate my local group... if you don't have one in your area i really recommend setting your own up, it doesnt take up too much time and you can always recruit extra mods if it does :)

Must be said, being willing to do the donkey work, and being polite does wonders. I just got what looks like a brand new, 17" LG monitor for free :D

(Also, I, and i know others, operate the policy of giving items to those who i know have offered things themselves. It isn't just about getting stuff free! :P)

There are an number of reasons for this happening, including...
    1. The Yahoo group server can SOMETIMES be a bit pants and this can delay or even lose your post.
    2. Did you post online or send an email - if email did you use the right addy that is associated with the group and send it as plain text rather than rich text?
    3. Are you moderated - some groups have newbies moderated to check that you are posting using the correct format for the subject line etc - check that you have not got a rejection in your inbox or spambox from the mod advising this.
In any event posts should NOT be edited (or deleted) as changes will only be seen by those looking at the web entry. Many members have the posts emailed individually or as daily digests so will not see any changes that you have made to the post.

My advice is to re-post, making sure you use the right email addy and plain text. You should be able to establish if you are moderated by looking at the control panel in the group.

If you get no joy then let me know the group and I'll ask a question on the Freecycle UK Mod Squad board to see if the group has lost it's mods.

    Cheers

    Thanks mattogier..

I still cant see it.. was my first post (online) so maybe its that I am being approved or something similar? - not had any emails or messages to say there was a problem, so I guess i'll just hang on and see what happens..

missed putting the colour of something, I can pass this on should anyone contact me.. wasn't too important..
