  • Well I gave a few things away on it and got a couple of items also. There wasnt one close enough to me so-I started a local group-all approved now and lots of people posting on it so for anyone who finds that there isnt one in your area-consider starting one yourself.

  • I have been a supporter of freecylce for some time now but have just started taking stuff from a site called eswapit another free site aimed at recylcling. Got to admit it goes slightly against the grain because some of the people actually want stuff in return. But I have found a couple of little gems.

thanks for that - i didn't know about freecycle and looks fab,
eswapit looks really lame, a total of 45 items in the whole country, chance of them being anywhere near you, or something you'd want - slim.
Don’t ask what the world needs. Ask what makes you come alive, and go do it.
Because what the world needs is people who have come alive.

I dont know how long its been going but theres not much on it. Also the number of items to a main category seems to add up to less when split between sub categories.
    Very strange

  • Yep,

There is always a small number on it I think that is because a lot of the stuff comes of as it gets listed, so far I have got a couple of boks and a CD. So the fact it isn't local to me didn't matter as postage was minimal. The free PSP competition was also a bit of a draw for me I have to admit, I am a sucker for gadget comps.

And as It is free unlike a lot of the other swap site I don't mind using it.

    Hi

Just to let everyone know about the new freecycle group for Melton Mowbray http://groups.yahoo.com/group/MeltonMowbray-Freecycle/

The Melton Mowbray UK Freecycle™ group is open to all who want to "recycle" that special something rather than throw it away. Whether it's a fax machine, piano or an old door, feel free to post it. Or maybe you're looking to acquire something yourself! Nonprofit groups are also welcome to participate too!

One main rule: everything posted must be free. This group is part of The Freecycle Network, a nonprofit organization and a movement of people interested in keeping good stuff out of landfills. Check out freecycle.org for other cities and info on the movement!

  • Hi
Not sure whether this is the right thread, I might post it in the ethical too- but I wanted to tell other MoneySavers about a fantastic service called freecycle.org .You can use this to recycle unwanted bits and pieces and find a good home for your now unwanted treasures.

I usually offload things to a charity shop, but this is an alternative.
There are several local lists to put you in touch with others in your area - I have found new homes for an old TV ( which a charity shop could not accept as it was electrical) and a printer. I have also gained some tapes on meditation and lots of plant pots.

Hope it might be of use.
