Are recipes still supposed to contain opinion?
Recipes are a weird one. How can they contain opinion? For me they should mention how easy it is to make etc but is this actually opinion. A list is SU for me but then I don't think recipes have any place on the site so don't read them.0 -
HI Brooke
I concur with most of the above replies too. I actually will go a bit further and explain that I think it would be a bit weird to justify the rating, when the review is meant to be written with the end consumer in mind, not us members.
Justifying ratings is something that has tended to creep in over the years that some people seem to expect and is almost exclusively in dooyoo and ciao. There are other useful review sites out there where it would just be bizarre behaviour to justify ratings. I am thinking travel sites and even amazon to name but a couple. So like the others who have commented I very rarely give writing feedback in the comments thread, but will do via PM - where requested, as it is not my place as a guide to foist my opinion on others either..0 -
I got my first NU this week - from a new user who gave it to me as their very first rate! I sent them a message and asked what had lead them to rate it as NU, but never got a response.
I think that if you have rated someone U or SU, and they are concerned enough or bothered enough about it to ask for constructive criticism, then they deserve to have a response back.
On the bright side, I got two crowns this week, so I am happy :jSuccessful women can still have their feet on the ground. They just wear better shoes. (Maud Van de Venne)Life begins at the end of your comfort zone (Neale Donald Walsch)0 -

Chances are you won't. A random rate like that will very rarely be justified by the person marking it as such. I would always respond to a request about a rate (even those that are worded rudely) but that's me, and not all. Often new users don't undertstand the site. Maybe they disagreed with you. They might have stopped by and won't return. They may not even know about the PM system (it's amazing how many don't notice it!). I'm not making excuses. Just saying what I've seen before.0 -
I received an NU, and PM'd the person. It took a while for them to get back, but they said they hadn't realised they'd clicked NU and went back and changed it.Moving onto a better place...Ciao :wave:0

Thanks, guys, dooyoo have removed the rate. The person who rated it has written several reviews themselves, since. The first ones were shoddy, but has since written some reasonable stuff which I have rated accordingly, so hopefully it was just "one of those things" and they will settle in.Successful women can still have their feet on the ground. I have a question about rating.
I have noticed a fair few reviews where its patently obvious that English isn't the author's mother tongue and the grammar can be really quite difficult to understand.
Some of these reviews are pretty good for structure, detail, opinion etc, but I do find the errors irritating.
Am I being pedantic and unfair in rating these down?0 -

If the reviews are difficult for you to understand then it is likely that it is difficult for a consumer to read too so rating down is fine I would think. Reviews with varying structures are fine and poor spelling is not always an easy but poor grammar can make a review difficult to read.0
