Have only just come across this thread, so here's my contribution:
    - £10 Xmas bonus if you're on State Pension
    - £200 Winter Fuel allowance if living alone. £100 if you share household with
    another pensioner.
    - Reduced rate subscription for membership of National Trust.
    - Concessions (reduced entrance fee) for some theatres, shows, general
events of entertainment. Country shows, exhibitions, etc.
    - Reduced rates for pensioners on certain days in many barbers/Hairdessers.
    - 10% reduction for over 60's on Wednesdays (?) from B & Q

Look around and always ask if they do concessions for Over 60's.

Ours is £47 for a joint membership. We had been members before 60 and then asked for concessionary rates.

Free entry in museums (have to pay for visiting exhibitions though)

No, at age 60 you automatically qualify, your age is printed on the prescription and the pharmacist won't even ask you to make a declaration of any sort.

Thanks Biggles, I must have read it wrong. I'm 59 so I've got something to look forward to next year!

Have just started looking on this board as am now sixty (and three quarters) . I have two questions:

Could someone point me to a detailed post on discounts for older people? Am sure there must be a list here somewhere!

Also, I know that you can have a 10% discount in B & Q on Wednesdays. Is this from sixty years of age or Sixty Five? If its sixty what is accepted as proof ? I have no state retirement pension card as I am deferring. I have a concessionary bus pass but that could be for a reason other than age. Birth certificate seems a bit over the top!

What about your passport, that has your date of birth on I'm sure.
Also have a look at this site, it's full of great tips and things for seniors and has extra discounts too.

I think the B&Q discount is for the over 60's. I didn't have any proof of age when an B&Q assistant asked me if I was interested in signing up. We both had a chuckle as I obviously looked over 60 to her. And I now enjoy my 10% off on Wednesdays !
.................:)....I'm smiling because I have no idea what's going on ...:)

I show my bus pass as proof of age if necessary and it has always been accepted. Most of the time when I ask for the 'senior' rate I dont get asked to show id - young girls and boys who are issuing tickets etc seem to think that anyone over 40 is ancient, past it and a senior citizen!
