Hi, this is the Daily Thread for Friday 27th Feb. This is an 'Over the garden fence' type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or slow internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred.
When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly, but if not, it's not a problem.
Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two Daily Threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new Daily Thread after they get up in the morning.
Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “Hi everyone, hope you are all well” type start is just as good!
Morning.
Lazy Saturday.... I don't think I have worked a weekend in ages. Can't be bad.
Everyone is asleep. Some kids are sleeping at their friends and some kids have friends sleeping here. Daughter went to the kids disco last night. What a sight that was a bunch of 14 year old dressed like tarts thinking they were 18-21. I don't know if she is going again. It may be stereotypical, but no doubt part of the reason we have the highest teen preggy rate in Europe...
Got our American navy friends coming over today.
They always bring genuiine root beer... so I shall enjoy that
.
My friend in Albuquerque sent me this news item. It's just down the road from his house. I don't think he did it though. Pretty gruesome eh?
Well, a hen house to clean out, chicken food to buy and a few other jobs and then decide what to feed our friends. Maybe home made Cornish pasties? Why not....
ASDA was a disapointment last night. Last week loads of offers, this week, not much at all.... shame they are not consistent.
The Interviews went OK. IT was obvious to see who had the potential and motivation to succeed. 2 young female staff members got the head of year positions the older male teachers did not. Boy were they angry, or so I hear. But they just did not have the presentation....
Cheers

Morning N9eav & all that follow,
Up early here today as DH going to a football match in Cumbria with the Lions and is leaving at 8am so I'm on sandwich/flask dutiesIt's lovely to have an hour of peace with my coffee whilst everyone else is in bed.
Going into town this morning as I want to buy a new rivet for ds (DD's BF but I class him as a DS now so will refer to him that way from now) jeans. They are an expensive pair that still fit beautifully so I'll repair them anyway I can come up with :T I've warned him that it may end up being a press stud or something (I'm not buying a rivet punchy thing just for that) and he's ok with it - he wears them low on his hips  with his top covering the waist band so no one will see
Lunch is leek & potato soup & dinner is meatballs, spaghetti, garlic bread & salad.
Diva - Good news re Tristan
Sybil - My middle ds, now 14, was very similar to the sound of LB when he was little, I used to say that he could start a riot in an empty roomHe STILL investigates things by picking them up and touching them to this day. My favourite saying since he's been about 2yrs old is 'Have you got eyeballs in the ends of your fingers?' he just laughs these days & tells me yes :rotfl:
AnnieStar - ((((((((((((Hugs))))))))))))))))
Kathy - It's all sounding very exciting - will I fit in a packing box to sneak to France with you????
(((((((((((((((((((((((((hugs)))))))))))))))))))))))))))))) to all & I hope that you enjoy your Saturday, whatever you're doing.

Morning all,
Well I managed to clear my list y/day popped into Morries and saw a friend who reminded me that we are invited to her party tonight, I asked her what I should bring, thinking of drinks. She said "chilli and garlic bread" So bought some mince went home and made a huge pan of chilli. Making the bread today. Now we'll have to get a taxi as we can't carry 10lb of chilli, 6 garlic sticks and 2 bottles of wine. Bit of an expensive night.
The curry I made has been tamed down with coconut milk but has gone a bit thin, how to thicken it?
I'm going to make a start on the curtains for DD2, am dreading the blackout lining bit, it's so thick and heavy and the curtains will be huge. So if the air turns blue in S/set it's coming from here.
BARGAIN, No luv I haven't had your pm. Checked my box and it's not full, I expect it's up there in the ether along with all the odd socks.
TURFY, How tragic for DH's friend.
REVERBIE, The police should ask the PO to see if they could identify anyone who are living there. Horrid person.
ANNIE S. I've been away so don't know about Mark, is he OK?
CSARINA, I do hope today is better than y/day. can you not give yourself a treat?
DIVA, so glad you had contact with Tristan. (((((hugs to you both)))))
SMOKY, JACKI O, PEN PIN, how are you?0 -
Morning N9eav, Sunnygirl & all to follow
N9eav, my 12 year old DD did the same with her friend last night - it is frightening to look at them.... Have a great lazy weekend with your friends & your root beer.
Sunnygirl, I know what you mean about that hour of peace - early mornings when nobody else is awake are lovely
Kathy, how exciting - sometimes doing it at speed is good as you don't get time to worry!! You'll be there before you know what's happened
Need to sort out a proper base for a rotary line this weekend - I tried a stone parasol base last year, but it still tips over all the time, so my mate is going to help create a concrete one in the lawn. Then I can get a load of sheets out tomorrow!!!
Still got some nice ham & crusty bread for lunch. Bought some Sainsbury's "Deli style" coleslaw yesterday, it was lovely, very tasty. I don't go there very often, but may alternate a little more. Interesting reading the Asda V elsewhere thread - and views on the "type" of people who shop where...bit stereotypical perhaps. Blackberry muffins to make as well.
Supper, I might make risotto, haven't had that for ages & have got some frozen king prawns to use, plus a tin of asparagus. Might put some peas in too.
Off to (re)join the gym this morning, but doing it with a friend so we are going to motivate each other. Also decided to pay for 2 younger DD's to have junior membership (oldest doesn't want it) so that they can benefit too. DD(15) will be able to go on her own (or with her friends who already belong) from August when she turns 16, and DD(12) can go to the tennis club night on a Friday evening for a couple of hours too, which may give her a bit more of an interest.
Need to catch up on the rest of yesterday's thread but (((((((((hugs)))))))) for all those having tough times or just wanting one.Live your life until love is found, or love's gonna get you down" (credit to Mika!)0 -
Morning :hello:
It's been a busy week. On tuesday at 6.30am, W from next door was in tears and yelling for us to come over, M was on the floor and he couldn't move her. We rushed round and she was face down and had her arm trapped under her. Mr tru sat on the floor with her while I rushed back here to ring an ambulance (I couldn't find her cordless phone). M was taken to hospital, first of all they said it was a minor stroke, yesterday they said it was more serious than they thought  They're in their 80's, M is a very fit and strong lady, W suffers from angina and we thought he was starting to have an attack - he refused to go to hospital so I was under orders from the paramedic to watch over him, so we've been in and out of her house all week (we make ourselves scarce when family are there). Anyway, M's son says she probably won't come home again and her quality of life will be bad, her GD says she's improving and doing wellTo be honest I believe the GD because the son is a bit of a drama queen
GD is popping round later for a cuppa and a full update.
We've made the veg patch larger than we were going to (we were using part of M's garden for veg and we're assuming she won't want us jumping over the fence every day, at least for a while). The garden is clay so it was back-breaking work, but it's done now :T We now have room for 2 compost bins, 6 potato bins, an area dedicated to broad beans - mr tru's faveand we'll get tons of carrots and onions. Then there's the runner beans, leeks, swede, rhubarb.............I can't wait to get it all going
I haven't cooked all week, the freezer is running low on HM goodies so I'll be spending the next couple of days with the oven on to restockBulletproof0 -

Good morning everyone. I've missed the past couple of days so I'm not sure what's going on with everyone. ((((((((((((Hugs)))))))))))))) to all who want/need them.
I'll be trying out the butcher I've been looking at sort of near us for something for our roast dinner tomorrow. I've been trying to price compare so I have some idea of what I'm willing to pay. It will probably go flying out my head when I get there tho. :rotfl:
The cleaning is done for the weekend, other than the daily tidy and washing up in the kitchen. I'm putting on a large pot of veg soup with browned mince in a bit. It's american style (for lack of better description) with plenty of tomatoes etc. I like a creamy veg soup, but I also like the tomato based with lots of chunky veg. We've not had that in a while. That and toasties will be our tea for tonight. I'll freeze some portions while I'm at it for DH's lunches and another meal or so.
DH is off to work today so it's just me and the furbaby. I think it will be an easy day here. Perhaps a day on the sofa with a blanket, book and a cuppa.
Take care all and try to enjoy your day.

tru love the 2nd mouse...v funny!! Morning all...just popping in before starting the day...off to clean a few hours then plan to go to the allotment for a bit before coming back to tidy and cook for my allotment partners (two blokes!) so must remember to do extra pasta as blokes always eat more!!
Also wanted to say that I DO struggle to keep up with names etc so please dont feel insulted if I miss anyone - not deliberate and in no way means I dont care.
Hope those feeling low have a better day..
Re the little bear ws I managed (before the days of childproof bottles) to get hold of my mums sleeping tablets...thinking they were smarties and being a greedy piggy even then ate the lot...thankfully she realised it had"gone a bit quiet" and got there on time....!! As you can see I'm still here but lesson learned! You cant watch them every second though so some things he will just have to learn...just do what you can!
o/s things today will be making bread for me, allotment buddies (well like to treat em so they are more willing assistants!!) and tomorrow will do the jam and pectin after church! Am on call today so money being earned!! Thankfully so far its a quiet weekend!!
And finally...its also the final day in the stirring of the starter...may do a cake for church and see what pepys think! The recipe is quicker than the starter thankfully!!
Hugs all...have a great day!Nerd no 109 Long haulers supporters DFW #1! Even in the darkest moments, love and hope are always possible.0 -
Morning All
Sorry to hear about your neighbours Tru.
Very mild here in Essex today but no sunshine at the moment. I am about to put some bread on for lunch, forgot to do it last night so it will be on fastbake. Then headed to another village to visit the library. DD wanted to come but she isnt out of her pit yet.
Making lasagne this morning for tonights dinner, think the kids want chips with theirs I will have jacket spuds. Its one of our favourite dinners.
The rest of the day will be mainly spend ironing, also want to make the fudge brownies that I still havent got round to.
Cant wait for lets dance for comic relief tonight - laughed so much last week.
Have a great Saturday.x
(Oh and ended up saving £2400 on our business ins yesterday - we had a claim last year as well so I am well pleased. Had to change brokers as our old one were too slow getting the quotes - bit sad but at that price cant be emotional). God am waffling, am off now...honest.0 -
Good morning - isn't it quiet here today, everyone must be having a lie in! N9eav - I know what you mean about the way kids dress - we see them round here too, I know when I was 10, 11, 12 etc I wasn't thiking about trying to dress as though I was 21. Seems like they are missing ojut on their childhoods really.
Tru W&M are lucky to have good neighbours like you. Nice that their family are also helping too - so many cases you hear of where the first time the family appear is to pick over the bones of the house after the funeral....
MSD SO glad that Tristan has been back in touch - you're right, let him fight if that's what he needs, I know I probably wouldn't be lying back mand calmly accepting my fate if I were him.
Beth - bit of a cheek with your friend and the party food isn't it?! I have to say if I were you I would be leaving the wine at home though - she surely can't be expecting you to take that as well as the food?
Well our lamb arrived yesterday - cue some amusement at work and my Area Manager practically putting his back out carrying the box to the boot of my car for me! Yesterday evening was spent sorting out the first lot from that - I minced half a shoulder and a piece of one breast and we've got 6 portions of mince from that. She's sent us the bones from our lamb plus some extras from another, so half of those have been picked over and provided another 3 bags of scraps for curry, soup etc. There is still three bits of shoulder, the shanks (dinner tomorrow!) and the rest of the breasts in the fridge at the moment - plus the rest of the bones which are currently packed back into the big cardboard delivery box with the ice-packs around them and are sitting outside. I have to start some serious lamb-based meal planning! :rotfl: The SC has been on overnight with a scotch-broth style soup - that will be blized wth the stick blender in a moment and then some set aside for lunch today, the rest frozen. It will most likely go back on later with a big batch of lamb curry - yummy!
Other plans for today - not much really! We're off to friends this afternoon - will watch the rugby at their place and then are continuing with them to her 40th birthday party this evening. I think I'll make some Twinks to take over with us. The party is in a pub and having seen the selection of beers they have on I have changed my mind about driving! It'll be shanks's pony / public transport going over there and public transport / taxi coming home though.
