Turned Down for Jobseekers

Just bee turned down for Jobseekers Allowance....they daid it was due to insufficient Class1 during tax years ending 2007 and 2008......during both these years, I earned over 100k so cannot understand this?

alos they refused to backdate for 23 weeks, my delay was due to my wife giving birth day after the redundancy...any advce?

    You need a very good reason for backdating and I don't think that would be acceptable.

    I'd have thought the birth would allow a little backdating but 23 weeks seems excessive, assuming there were no major complications.

    The birth would not have been a good reason for delaying claiming for any period at all, it would have meant you were unavailable for work, sorry, and by the way 23 weeks........

    Where you paying Class 1 national insurance in that time? When did you finish work, the years they are currently looking at if you made your claim from 1st Jan onwards are 06/07 and 07/08.

  • Thanks, I meant 2-3 weeks, sorry bad typing.
    I was employed throughout those tax years on PAYE somsurely Class 1 wouldhave been paid and deducted by employer?

    It certainly should have been. Is your previous employer still in existence?

    Ring revenue and customs and see what they advise.

    If you still have your P60 from the relevant tax year then that will also help.

    Yes it was a large investment bank ad they are syill around, not mentiomning them as I am returning there to work as a temp in a month or so...

    That's good, it should mean all your contributions have been paid properly. There must be a computer glitch that needs sorting.

    sometimes R&C are slow updating your credits.

    I apparently paid no NI for 2006 and its only just been confirmed this year that i paid in full
