Just read quite a lot of the recent thread and I've got to say that I for one am really happy with low priced R&R's like crisps and coke.
I have recently been overcharged (4 times in last month) by sainsburys who don't have an r & r policy and yet I have still sought a refund of the difference.,
I can't see that it is wrong to use tesco's own policy & seek r & r when overcharges happen.
I joined the site a few months ago and can't help but think about all the money I have allowed to slip through my fingers over the years.0 -
Could anyone help?
Tried to get a DVD Recorder yesterday.
SEL was showing £84.74 but charged £99. SEL had expired on the 9/3. Went to CS and after 20 mins and call to Head Office was told 'legally' they did not have to honour the R&R as SEL had expired. Had a refund but will take it up with HO by letter.
Any thoughts would be much apreciated. ThanksSmoke me a kipper. I'll be back for breakfast!!!0 -

This seems to be their latest way of getting out of an r+r. I tried withthe panasonic dvdr and we fobed off with this and HO backed the store. It seems we are now expected to read the hole of the SEL including the small text on there stating the offer ends date that is near the barcode which is usually only for store use anyway.
I was "informed" by the store manager that people have been removing SEL's during the offer and returning the SEL to the store once the offer has expired to claim and R+R. He back tracked quickly after by saying he wasnt accusing me of this0 -

Looking at it from another way, would you buy something without reading the small print?
Personally I disagree with the reason used for not giving the R&R however, the "are we expected to read what we are buying before we buy it" claim doesnt ring true. Enough of the SEL was read to see that it related to the product being bought so why not the date displayed on it?
Incidentally, the Offer ends date is there for customers information, the store staff generally know when the offers end.
And as for the managers claim....I can verify it, i have seen it happen myself.Fight Poverty - Hit a tramp!

Spa, I have to disagree with you on this one. As far as TS is concerned, customers are not expected to read small print on a SEL. If Tesco puts it there for customer information, it should be as prominent as the rest of the information on the label. As it is, the offer ends information is in tiny lettering. As far as the law is concerned, if the information is displayed in such a way, the customer is not expected to notice it. It all comes down to how prominent the information is on the SEL. In this case, Tesco is wrong. In a rut? Can't get out? Don't know why?
It's time to make that change.

Well, forget the small print, it gets worse. They now expect you to compare the bar codes on the products against that on the shelf!! Happened to someone I know, refused r+r on the basis that barcodes didnt match, despite it being the same product... doesnt look good!0

You've seen the labels enough times Myusername... to know that the date is certainly big enough to see at first glance. No complete examination or magnifying glass is needed to determine the dates.
I do agree that Tesco are wrong. The price is wrong, the customer was overcharged. R&R should be issued. End Of.pricematch wrote:Well, forget the small print, it gets worse. No customer is expected to compare bar codes, that is the staffs job. I can also understand the R&R being refused on these grounds however. It is also a rare occurance for R&R to be denied on these gounds.Fight Poverty - Hit a tramp!

In my opinion there are a few too many jobsworths working on the CS desks.
Earlier in the week i too purchased the goodmans dvd recorder with a sel showing 84.99 but was charged 99.99 .
The CS person told me he resented people trying to obtain free goods using the r+r policy.
He also mentioned i had " done this before ", i replied " yes i have been overcharged before " lol
Needless to say i didnt get the r+r and was fairly embarrased by his comments.
I did go into this particular tescos daily to buy my lunch but wont anymore.
For the record i have only ever tried one r+r in this store before and was refused on that too by the same CS person.0 -

We're not talking about how often I see the labels. TS takes the view that customers are not expected to read anything on a SEL that is not given as much prominence as the price. As stated before, it all comes down to prominence. In a rut? Can't get out? Don't know why?
