  • Yep, paranoia. It is a legal requirement to supply your name and address when purchasing a TV, TV recording device or set top box, regardless of where you purchase it. If a club card is used, the information from that is used. If not, the cashier needs to get the information from you.

I don't believe that it actually is, whenever I've purchased a TV, VCR etc. I've never been asked for my adress

Hands up who's had the monopoly on the Ely, Cambs, store?
Not letting the rest of us know that there is a scanner there. And more so that it's not a hidden one - but is ideally placed along the CD/PC Games aisle? ;)
Never mind. I've let mr smartie know for his scanner location list and sorry, but you'll just have to share it now... :rotfl:

It is a legal requirement, shops all have forms that need to be filled by the purchaser. Obviously they couldn't be bothered. I have even heard of people being asked to fill them when they've bought a DVD player, which is patently ridiculous.

With regards to informs not happening, if the manufacturer doesnt inform the supermarket of the barcode (either a change or new) or the "inform" gets lost somewhere in the systen then the product that it relates to it will not scan at the point of sale as it will not have been programmed in.
    Bingo

thats is correct. So no over charge.
    :T
Ahh... I see the game here.
Barcode not recognised, so SA gets CS to check SEL and charges the appropriately retrieved price.
Just need to cross fingers that CS picks wrong price up then (for r+r). ;)

one last thing write to the managing director and not to customer services as you are likely to get a few buts kicked on the way back down to the customer services dept hence making people want to make you happy very quickly :D

Thanks. I still can't believe it.

I told my other half last night that I had been banned from my local supermarket, which was embarrasing yet again. When I told him it was because the manager did not like my style of shopping, he just started laughing, as did we both in the end!.

I still dont know what I have done wrong, ive done nothing illegal after all, so why am I being treated like a criminal?. Its a complete joke.

I have written to Head Office for an explanation, as soon as I get a response Ill let you know the outcome.

People who use the R+R are actually having a symbiotic relationship with Tesco HO management team without knowing it. Think about it…. You are actually doing a great service for the HO by exploiting the lack of dutiful-ness (a polite substitute word for incompetence) of their store management staff. Imagine how much it would cost Tesco HO to hire inspectors to monitor all stores to ensure that local staff are carrying out their duties and pricing products correctly in compliance with the law? You see the R+R bunch are doing this work almost free of charge for Tesco. The actual R+R you get is a tiny fraction of the true cost to Tesco for hiring people to identify misleading pricing/mispricing in order to adhere to the law of the land as well as monitoring the effectiveness of their local store management.
The only reason why local stores have mispricing is because the lack of management control at the local level to ensure that their prices are correct and adhere to the pricing stipulated by the HO.
The only people the R+R is bad for are the local store management team, as it identifies them to the Tesco HO as people who are not carrying out their jobs properly hence the great resistance at the store CS to give R+R.
I like to hear from any Tesco's employee (particularly management) if they agree with the above analysis?
I believe that HO management team are smart people and would recognise the service that you guys are doing for it, free of charge, and therefore doubt if they would ever change their policy. If anything the likes of Asda/Sainsbury etc should recognise the merits of the Tesco's policy and adopt it forthright. I understand from a friend that most chains in USA do have similar R+R policies to Tesco.

as for the "interesting to note that all the items you have posted that you checked are high value and easily resellable" comment well i can assume you have not gotten anything from tescos for free with the value of say more then a couple of pound? those in glass houses and all that.

i can safely say that i have NEVER had anything on r&r from Tesco...so my glasshouse is perfectly safe.......

So, Tesco are in the wrong when the prices are incorrect and people are overcharged yet when all the things that MIGHT have been acquired for free are actually priced correctly tesco are still wrong as no one got anything for free.....

That is just sick and shows the extent of some peoples greed..

I agree with moneysaving and i like free stuff as much as the next man but surely there are limits????

Please dont take this as a personal attack bahney as it is not aimed directly at you, your post is simply indicitave of a growing trend although it is interesting to note that all the items you have posted that you checked are high value and easily resellable as opposed to beans or crisps etc.
I concur. Perhaps some of you guys should consider getting a life ......

big mama, I agree with you which is why I don't having any qualms about what is being done here.

I only wish I had seen this thread earlier. My last two trips to Tesco's, I have checked my bill only to find that I had been overcharged. I only noticed because, these days, I don't make many purchases and have to count the pennies. It makes me wonder how many times I've been overcharged and not noticed - particularly in the days when I had plenty of money and spent a couple of hundred pounds a month there. On the first occasion, it was a CD that I had bought as a present and bought it in Tesco's because the price on the shelf was cheaper than I had seen in other stores. As I was overcharged, I took it to the customer services desk and then went with the Assistant to check the price. She gave me the difference in price. I had heard that Tesco's had this 'refund and supply the product free' policy but I didn't think that it would apply to CDs or other more expensive items (judging what some people have managed to get, I know better now!), so I didn't even question it. The second time, it was only a pizza which had put on a shelf with a discount price. I only bought it because it was discounted. The assistant said that the wrong type of pizza had been put on the shelf and the one I had bought wasn't discounted but he refunded the full price without me asking, gave me the pizza and thanked me for letting him know! To me, still unaware of the policy, this was like winning the lottery - a free dinner!

Then I saw this thread.........and will look out for any mispriced items in future because I do so want to be a good citizen and help Tesco's not break the law. :D If anything, I'm angry that so many people are being overcharged without even realizing.
