yeah i want it but not if i have to pay for it, if you get my drift, i mena i don't need a 14" tv but if i get it for free then i aint gonna refuse, lol
reading more on this, just 1 question really? how do you check the scan prices? is it just a case of picking it up off the shelf and taking it to the till and asking them what price it scans at? if you are checking loads of stuff wouldent this be a pain in the !!!!!! and wouldent they suspect something ?0 -
Bahney wrote:i am just worried about getting stuck with loads of stuff i dident want in the first place, lol
yeah dont buy the stuff if you dont want it.
The stores have self scanners dotted about the store which allow you to scan the barcode and it tell you the price on the system, check the price is higher than what is on the SEL or product or advertisement. The scanners are a bit hit and miss some work some dont, there are people that think it is a conspiracy that they dont work.
If the scanners arnt working you can take the item to a till and ask then to check the price I have dont that a few times, what ever you do dont take it to customer services. a small tip would be to find the scanners before the items, carrying items through stores will look strange,, I carried a pc once LOL.
Should you find you cant check the price and you get charged the SEL or marked price you have 2 options, forget your credit card or have no way to pay the other option pay for the items then take them to CS and ask for a refund and come up with a reason. remember CD's/dvds/games will usually only be allowed to be swapped due to piracy.
Take your TV's back un opened say your other half bought 2 eariler in the day or somthing without telling you and you dont need 4 TV's.
Another way to check for a miss price without the scanners is to check the SEL and the barcode on the product, the SEL has the numbers of the barcode if they match you are more likley to be charged the price on the SEL if they dont match then you could be on to a winner.
It is also a bad idea buying 2 of somthing like a TV, if you are seen doing this they will asume you are taking the psis and fob you off with 1 refund and the difference on the other. go to another store if you want a 2nd item
Good luck0 -
zorber wrote:-=Mr-J=- wrote:Correct me if I am wrong, but I believe manufacturer packaging prices, where cheaper, override a retailers price. Thought I had read this somewhere.
An example could be the x24 coke packs. Diet was marked £6.95, but ordinary was marked £6.75. An across the board eSEL for coke might read £6.95, hence an overcharge and respective r+r.
AS for the example you have quoted above i cannot see any over charge as the 6.75 but be less than the price advertised.
aaahhh I have just understood what you are trying to drive at and no it is not possible with any of the major chains to do this. for two reasons each product has its own SEL. And all price marked stock has a different barcode to regular stock, manufactures inform the respective buyers of the promo flash price and barcode and then this is loaded onto the computer system. Otherwise the product will just not scan.
What I was pushing towards, was that whilst the retailers (higher) price may be displayed on the eSEL, as per the central computer price - Packaging may also have a (lower) price advertised - maybe not noticied by the shelf stacker / PI dept.
In such a case, an overcharge would be made at POS and an r+r due for issue.
Maybe my coke example was a poor choice, but I was just trying to demonstrate that two similar products, from a single manufacturer, can often have two different prices. It is quite common for a SEL to be put out advertising an offer of, in this example, Coke & Diet Coke on the same SEL - and if the differing prices have not been noticied, the higher might be used, triggering an eventual overcharge.
I understand about the differing barcodes and that the manufacturers 'informing' companies of the promo prices, but lets be honest, with the amount of stock and the changes in packaging that go on, many such 'informs' must go astray or just get ignored due to workload.-=Mr-J=-0 -
Probably within 10 years the new RFID technology will be introduced. This means that every product will have a tiny microchip implanted into the barcode. This chip will transmit all product details to the shelf edge, these details will include things like price, product description, weight, special offers etc. This means that all products will arrive instore pre programmed and a certain end to r&r's. The SEL's will be LCD (or whatever technology arrives) and will get their information from the chip implanted on the products barcode. for more information have a look here. This technology is already being trialled across the supply chains of several major supermarkets.Fight Poverty - Hit a tramp!

With regards to informs not happening, if the manufacturer doesnt inform the supermarket of the barcode (either a change or new) or the "inform" gets lost somewhere in the systen then the product that it relates to it will not scan at the point of sale as it will not have been programmed in.Fight Poverty - Hit a tramp!
