I had a rummage around the documentation today about refunds and its pretty clear in that R&R is only really for where the shelf edge label displays a missprice not when its something like a leaflet, poster or something of that nature. So technically the phones shouldn't be covered by R&R by the sound of it and the customer service guys reading the 'script' are right.

Now there could have been some additional documentation with 'updates' to that but I think thats unlikely. (so basically I can't promise my info is perfect). Personnally I think thats abit miserable as I think customers pay just as much attention if not more to prices on posters and leaflets in store than they do on the shelf edge labels. I think if its mispriced on anything 'customer visable' in the store it should be valid for R&R. On the other side of the coin though there is no obligation for them to offer R&R on anything so I guess we should be grateful for what there is (I'm sure I'll be critised for THAT line).

Just some thoughts to kick around :)

As the displayed policy says "on the product or on the shelf", I think it's reasonable for customers to assume that posters stuck to the shelf, or leaflets in racks on the shelf, are included. I certainly wouldn't want to have to try and convince a judge or jury that they weren't included.

Anyone who gets R+R refused in the case of the phones, can legitimately speak to Trading Standards about this, as Tesco are not honouring their displayed price promise, and as such are trading illegally.

The displayed policy is a tricky one. It should be 100% clear as its not at the moment however the more wordy you make it the more likely people are to be confused. Abit of a no win scenario.

Well your right that Trading standards can be contacted over the phone issue as it was an overcharge. However bear in mind R&R has nothing to do with trading standards. If they offered R&R on the phones its still an overcharge and just as illegal/naughty etc.

Am I right or wrong in assuming that if a company offers a "lower" price on promotional literature they have to adhere to it till promotion ends regarding whether they allegedly have removed leaflets unless they put the withdrawal of offer in the national press or at very least a sign by the phone display and customer services desk.
You could then feasible argue that the "sel" was wrong.
Tescos policy seems to allow it to use wrong "sel" and overcharge that way without recompensing customer.Technically they could use "higher sels" aqnd customer wouldnt know in those circumstances they were being overcharged.Does this make sense or shall I go take my tablets now lol.....

i believe that any company has the right to withdraw a promotion at any time....if however that company continues to advertise that promotion within its premises then that is a different prospect.

Dont they have to advertise the fact its withdrawn within the catchment area and instore.....partly because of reason people may have leaflets/promo literature?
My local stores took the cake. One stocked phones wouldnt honour r&r despite the smaller store still having leaflets on display that day but no phones.

Surely if this is the case there is nothing to stop MR T(or anyone else)putting a double page promo spread in one of the dailys stating lets say "All books 25% off",then withdrawing it on the morning the paper came out.If you are right spa2k & ive no reason to think your not, surely in the instance of the phones there should be some sort of poster/notice up next to the V171 stating "offer withdrawn".

    Hi tars
    http://www.tesco.com/customerservices/custServCustomerDesk.htm
go to this page and(and if things dont add up) it clearly shows the new refund policy on r+r,and nowhere does it mention about sel price,it only states in the event of an overcharge.
is this correct or the instore posters?
    thanks

    Thanks
have you checked cos tesco used to be the old bt/cellnet before it became 02 (or something like that)

if not you can transfer your no to tesco.
if not take it back and exchange it and have £50 towards an 02 phone!!

once again, the rules regarding unlocking the phone to use it on another network are in the terms and conditions booklet.
