CELYN90, I've never used blackout lining before, do I sew it like ordinary lining? I think it's the rubber stuff that keeps the light out.

I just treated it as normal; but used a more robust needle (a denim needle for the sewing machine worked fine) as the stuff is quite stiff.

    Hi all,

Just had to pop on and share that after doing Martin's Money IQ test I rated as a genius money saver  - if only. Good at the theory, need to do better in practice:o .

elona - I have one of those kids as well, ED used to eat loads of things but since she went to school she's 'gone off' loads of things. We're down to cheese & dairylea sandwiches now:eek: In fact I spent ages the other day compiling a list of alternatives, e,g, pasties, quiche, fritatta, leftover pizza, savoury scones/muffins, cheese & marmite straws. Trouble is most of them still contain cheese, she would eat cheese morning, noon and night if she could! Also managed to come up with some sandwich filling to try for some recipes that one here in the packed lunch thread - Honey, Raisen & Nut (need to check the school rules), chocolate, bean pate. I've made the list but not done anything about it tho! Tomorrow I'm child free so I might have a baking/freezing day, esp as OH has just started a new job and the stress seems to be making him hungry and he's taking a packed lunch but its not enough. Will let you know how I get on.......

    Afternoon all,

Feeling brighter this morning, maybe because I forced myself to get up early enough to shower before I took DGS2 to school...even had breakfast with him so fed properly as well.

Happy anniversary to the Thrifties, have a good day

Am going to keep to my 3 meals a day for Lent...or 'one full meal and 2 colations' as it was called in my youth, used to cause much discussion as to how light a meal made up a colation....think in fact that should have 2 lls??

One wash done and on line....don't care when it dries its towels and dishtowels so needs a spell in open air...have lots of 'delicate' washing to do so might be able to fill the machine.

Soup for me for lunch, then baked fish for dinner with peas, carrots and white sauce ( if I remember to buy milk), not sure about pudding.

Welcome Yorkshire celt...nice warm place this.

OH's cousin died in Neath, S Wales last week, her funeral is on Saturday so was trying to see if we could go, but no suitable flights to Cardiff so will not go . Did think of flying to Bristol and taking in the end of the MSE meet but it would involve hiring a car and would end up very expensive...not too flush at present so flowers will have to be the answer.

Hugs to all in need or want, particularly those feeling down for any reason

At this point I would be asking, 'how good is wonderweb?' ;) Or even a staple gun

Little bear is asleep after a splendiferous tantrum, which I think was because he was tired and it wasn't fair! and I'm having literal dizzy spell, so I am going to carry on knitting a little sweater for next door's baby. And I am not going to look at the Lakeland catalogue. I'm saving that for later!

Tea is a 'use it up' veggie stir fry type thing - anything that can be chopped sizzled with a tin of condensed tomato soup added at the end, plenty of herbs and served with pasta.

But later on, honest, I will be on with a huge list of old style things I have done. Really. Promise.

    Hugs to all.

Squiggly - big hugs for you honey..
Mudgekin - great to see you back and big hugs for you, I am sorry you are going through such a bad time.
Moggins - thinking of you honey
Lesley hon - No, I didn't post yesterday, thanks for noticing hon and hope your family all get to feel better soon!

Had a very non-OS day yesterday. Had a hospital appointment so was nervous and too uptight to eat first thing so when we were finally out of the place I gave in and we went to Burger King. I have to say it fed my 'Junk food' soul..

The appt went Ok though I was prodded and pricked all over the place. They took about two armfuls of blood from the back of my hand which hurt all the way through the procedure. My OH had to move away and not look as the sight of blood makes this 6ft 4 man go all queazy, and even while we were talking about it he had to 'la la la' so he couldn't hear it!rotfl.gif

BM is on and the washing machine so the machinery is working to its full extent so far! Day is a bit grey so won't be able to use the washing line like we did yesterday. Really enjoyed seeing my garlic all growing when we went out yesterday and all my bluebells are up, if not flowering yet.

Have to do a Tescos order today which always seems to take ages, but then when it arrives it feels like Christmas..*chuckles* . I really should get out more!!
smileyhug.gifto everyone who would like one. I know I haven't mentioned Tristan. Am working up to it.

Just wondering if anyone has advice about how much you can save using a water meter, our annual statement has arrived, it's about the only thing I haven't had a go at cutting yet!

Have been busy fixing credit card bills and the like so we don't incur interest. Tidying up paper work so I can the desk, it's quite satisfying really,

FOrgot I was off chocolate, have been for a few weeks! HM soup for lunch, so hope that will keep the munchies at bay!

PS...what uses a lot of white cabbage, I keep buying it whoopsied, but not used much. Can do bubble and squeak, but that will still leave quite a lot!

It depends on how many of you are in the house I think. My parents had a water meter fitted 2 years ago & more than halved their bills. They aren't particularly stingy with the water either - they mostly have showers instead of baths anyway, do 4 loads of washing a week, have a dishwasher that's on everyday, use plenty of hot water for cleaning the house, car & are always pressure washing the driveway & bins :rotfl: I think it works for them as there's only two of them I dread to think what it'd be here with 6 of us  I'll ask them for some more exact figures when I speak to them later & post back for you if you like?
