The K2 Indian Restaurant next to the Sweet Centre in Lumb Lane in Bradford offers excellent meals very cheaply; two can have a starter and main course for under a tenner (excl drinks) - it's not licensed but you can bring your own drinks, and the curry is out-of-this-world! Loads of (free!) on-street parking locally; although the area's aesthetically a bit rough round the edges I've been going here and to the Sweet Centre, Haigy's and Valley Parade for years and never had a spot of bother!

    This is the secret message.
  • This is not cheap as chips but for very cheap fine dining try Cail Bruich (https://www.cailbruich.co.uk) near the Botanic gardens in Glasgow. £9.50 for a fabulous two course lunch. Amazing food, linen table cloths, great service. My mouth is still watering and my purse is still happy two weeks later!

If you are in the Pontypridd, South Wales area why not try the Upper Boat Inn they do a delicious carvery all day every day for £3.95 (more expensive on Sunday)
  • Any places around York? our cheap places are the chain ones that we get vouchers for.....mainly on here ;) Ta Martin and everyone from MSE!!!
  • For visitors to central London, I'd thoroughly recommend the Cafe at St Martin-in-the-Fields on Trafalgar Square. To my mind it's the best value in central London. Decent portions, great cooking and a fabulous atmosphere. Even better, all profits go to the work of St Martin's.

It's slightly more expensive than the Stockpot - but much, much better value.

Surprised no-one's mentioned Harvester Restaurants (Early Bird deal). Not carveries as such, but lots of tasty chicken/steak/pasta meals and a salad bar included which you can return to as many times as you want and which includes pasta, potatoes and bread rolls.

If you eat there before 6.30pm. any day of the week, the main meals are £4.99 or £5.99 (including salad). You can also download a coupon from their website for a free ice-cream sundae and they do special deals for kids.

    We go there often icon12.gif
I ended up in the black lion in patcham a few Sundays ago and was thoroughly impressed, food and service was fantastic.
  • We can recommend the Smith & Jones Pub in Northwich, Cheshire - The Anderton on Witton Street. Smith & Jones are part of the Barracuda group - have a look at the website to see if they have a place near you. http://www.barracudagroup.co.uk/.

There are all sorts of bargains on every day - Two main meals for £5.95 from a choice of 10 mains (all day every day), curry & a drink £5.95 on Fridays, £4.95 Sunday lunch (plus £1 to "go large"). You can have a chip bowl and one topping for just £1.95, or choose from the full main menu from £3.95 for different sorts of tastes and appetites (plus jackets, small plates, burgers, sandwiches, buckets, chargrill, melts with chips, wraps with chips, pastas, soups & a sandwich, etc.).

We've never had a bad meal there, although it is more a pub than a restaurant.

    We've always enjoyed http://www.frankieandbennys.com

They do thier lunch menu until 5pm so it's fab to go after school for a treat. For that you can get 2 courses for £7.25 and free refills on your drinks. The food is pretty nice, it's Italian/New York style so nice thin crust pizzas, pasta, posh burgers, etc. The kids menu is £3.99 and that includes a dessert, a goody bag and unlimited drinks- the kids cocktails are a great idea and make it feel like a real treat.

It's not the Ritz but it gets my vote for a value place to eat where you feel the food is well prepared.

Pizza Hut currently have a deal for a £4 meal between 4 and 6 pm.

You get to choose from a selection of pizzas, 2 pastas or a salad and it is served with a portion of garlic bread and a pint of juice.

Even better, you can buy two meals for £7.50 or four for £14.
