You receive a 6% discount when paying via monthly DD which saved me £22 on my last bill!!!!

All customers pay the same rate, whatever your choice of payment.

See: http://www.ebico.co.uk/html/c_yourbill.php

"In certain circumstances, our partner companies’ computerised billing procedures automatically deduct a percentage from the bill for direct debit payment. But as you know, we don’t make reductions for those paying direct debit, because our customers all pay at the same rate.
In these circumstances, Ebico adjust the bill by adding a percentage to the rate first, so that when the deduction is made it comes out at the correct EquiGas or EquiPower rate"

Well, all I know is that I am being charged at the same rates advertised on Ebico's website and I get a 6% deduction on my bill for paying via monthly DD

Gas prices (inc VAT):

Sept '07 - March '08 = 2.72p
April '08 - Sept '08 = 3.03p
Oct '08 - March '09 = 3.77p
April '09
> = 3.67p

Electric prices (inc VAT):

Sept '07 - March '08 = 9.92p
April '08 - Sept '08 = 12.02p
Oct '08 - March '09 = (not received bill yet and only new prices showing on website)
April '09
> = 12.75p

Can anyone corroborate these rates? Obviously electricity prices will differ from region to region but presumably gas price should be the same for everyone?

just worked out 3.59+vat is near as dam it 3.77.
ebico state very clearly all customers pay the same rate so if you really do get a discount for dd then it is an error

...

Your unit prices prices seem to include an uplift except for the last billing period. I'm not sure where you got the price from April 2009 from as you couldn't have received a bill with that price on yet, but if you refer to the link I gave in my previous post, you won't be getting any discount for any bills from end March at the latest. Electricity prices obviously depend on region, but for gas, the ebico prices inc VAT were:

Sept '07 - March '08 = 2.55p
April '08 - Sept '08 = 2.86p
Oct '08 - March '09 = 3.77p

Could it be that the latest bill you have that shows a gas unit price of 3.77p already has the discount removed?

Btw, my bills from Ebico all quote unit prices ex-VAT, with a total VAT then added at the end of the bill.
Where exactly did you get those unit prices you are quoting from?

Edit: Looking at your electricity prices, am I right to assume you are in the Yorkshire electricity region? The reason being is that there were no regions charging 12.02p per unit, but 12.02p less 6% equals 11.31p which was the unit rate for Yorkshire during the period April '08 - Sept '08 (Northern Region was 11.33p, Manweb was 12.01p)

Edit2: According to your post, you seem to have gleaned from the ebico website that you expect the unit charge for electricity to be 12.75p from April. There are 2 regions where this price will apply:
1. Eastern, where electricity was 10.81p for April '08 - Sept '08
2. North West, where electricity was 11.21p for April '08 - Sept '08

Ok, looking at the figures you've provided above it does appear I was being charged a 6% higher rate to absorb the discount SE were applying.

I'm non too happy about this though as a) I wasn't aware of it, and b) when doing comparisons of costs from other suppliers I have been taking into account a 6% reduction of Ebico's prices so this is obviously very mis-leading.

Yes, yes, I am now aware there is information their website about this mthod of billing, but I hadn't seen that either until someone posted a link yesterday.

I will be revising my situation with Ebico now I know the true costs as I'm almost certain I can obtain my electricity at least at a much lower price elsewhere!

Hippey - please send your details to info@ebico.co.uk and I will look into this issue for you.

For all those questioning DD discounts... We work with S&SE who bill and supply our customers on our behalf. Their billing system automatically deducts a 5% discounts (used to be 6%) for customer paying by DD. Therefore, we adjust the tariff slightly so that when the discount is given, the correct tariff price is applied.

This is what has always happened up until now, and this will be removed at the end of the month so that customer paying DD will not recieve any discounts whatsoever.

I know this has caused problems in the past but we have always stated this on our website and told people that this is what happened.

Could you just clarify for me please?

Do you mean the price will still be higher but no DD discount applied, or the price will not be higher thus DD discount is no longer applicable?

I think he means the billing system will be sorted so the unit rates show correctly and there will be no discount.
