Energylinx have got it wrong assuming the tariff on Ebico is Equidual (which presumably is more expensive) and don't allow the option to choose Equipower and Equigas so anyone doing a comparison on that site need to beware.

All the other comparison sites agree with your calculation of £180 saving ;)

I see what Energylinx have done. :)

They've calculated your usage based on the pre-decreased price from Ebico(i.e. 13.75p) and then given you a mis-leading savings figure.

This can be seen by expanding the available options and you'll see they claim you could even save £56.73 using ebico :D
(based on the new ebico unit cost of 12.75p)

Equidual is simply the tariff for dual fuel supply from ebico, but it is charged at the same equipower and equigas rates. The alleged £56.73 saving is the saving you would receive anyway because ebico have reduced their prices.

Crafty beggars!!!! That is soooo misleading!

Just as well I'd already checked the other comparison sites beforehand then (was just coming back to change the figure when I saw your post ;) ) but in this case they all had EDF as the best option to switch to for electricity too.

I did wonder what was going on when they suggested I switch my gas supply to Equigas :rotfl: I just assumed it was due to the tariff selected and not that they were using the old prices!

Just to clarify, the inflated price and monthly Direct Debit discount work around has now gone :) This took affect on 7th March, so your bill will now show the correct unit price as advertised on the website (prices shown on website include VAT, on bills it's added at the end), with no discounts applied.

EquiDual is what is used on the price comparison sites so that we're listed on the dual fuel pages. We don't have a dual fuel tariff as such, EquiGas and EquiPower are billed seperately.

Tismemick, I've just replied to your query.

Thanks for the heads up on Energylinx Premier, I'm going to look into this now!

Any other questions or problems, please post in this thread.

    Thanks,

    Lauren

    yep i have a couple.
how does the switching work when your on card and key meters.
how long does it take to get the keys or cards to update your meter.
what happens to any credit you have put on the meter once your new keys / cards arrive?
    thanks

All you need to do is apply to switch either online (www.ebico.co.uk) or give us a call on 0800 458 7689 and we'll send you out a contract. The whole switching process takes about four to six weeks, and you need to continue to use your cards/keys. We'll contact you near to completion of the switch with your account details and issue you with your new card/key.

When you get sent a new key, the new tariffs are on the key, so all you need to do is put it into the meter then go and top it up, and the meter will automatically be updated with the new tariffs.

With a card, it's slightly different. The card is sent out with little information on it, and when you put it into your meter it registers with that meter. When you take your card to the shop to top it up, it should pick up the tariff information from the system. However it can take up to three times for the new tariff information to register on the card. If you always top up at the same shop then it should do it fine first time without any problems.

We suggest using all the credit on your meter before you use your new card/key as sometimes it can be wiped.

    Hope this helps!

I topped up my Electricity today and am now on 13.40 kwh (against 14.62 previously) BUT my gas is still @3.77

I phoned Ebico (via SSE) who said there was no Gas reduction and after telling em there was, they phoned Ebico and then said it may take a few attempts to get the new gas price !!!

Such a pain in the back side!!

Nigella, it can take a few times for the prices to update on the system I'm afraid. If you still experience problems please call the Prepayment Meter Team on 0800 980 0427 to discuss.
