  • Best of luck Becky,

    Hope all goes well. :T

I have had a pallet from Goldstone Books (2000 paperbacks - 13p each with delivery) and although I have no complaints they are mainly penny books and in only acceptable to good condition rather than very good.

There is also Mark at Samtrina who I can't vouch for personally but I think his pallets may have a few more gems in as he doesn't cherry pick perhaps as much as Goldstone appear to have done.

Have PM'd you with their emails

My Amazon sales are running at about half of last years levels with twice as much stock at the moment!!! Still it could all turn around soon !

I may be wrong but I think Mark/Samtrina are not doing pallets anymore? Might still sell on ebay though? I agree about sales being down in terms of numbers - I've still got lots of 1p books from a pallet I got 2 years ago but have lots of storage so its ok, am not a big seller only have 850ish books but I've noticed that though sales are fewer they are higher value, I've tried to buy more academic books/non fiction and they do seem to go. Hard to get stock very locally though for various reasons....

I suspect that to earn enough to live on could be quite tough as many sellers have reported a fall off in sales mind you others have found the opposite. I don't know what kind of books you were selling before? A lot of job lots/pallets are 1p books from my limited experience. You do need a lot of fresh stock to be coming in so need to set up a regular supply if possible. I wish you lots of luck with it and hope it works out.ps there are a few ex NHS staff who post so I think you are not alone ;)

I was selling anything and everything bookwise, and doing 100's of RISI swaps, bought quite a few job lots off ebay too and was very fortunate that they were private sellers so the books were not cherry picked. Very little on there now though! Used to make around £6-800 a month doing it part time in the nights, was hoping to be able to double that if I did it full time.

Goldstones is about 30 minutes drive from me, and they run a massive bookstore, so I guess his pallets would be the penny books he can't sell in the store. Will take a look at Samtrina though, thanks for that.

Might be worth talking to them about what you are looking for - I think the guy's name is Ash - google for the website. There's been a thread about Daleside not sending any more pallets out and a couple of guys who are going to be or are selling books [seller connection] so the situation seems to be changing all the time . I think if you haven't been doing Amazon bookselling for a while you might find its a bit/lot slower than it was as part of the general turndown. Hope it goes well for you. Teapot

Well have found myself a supplier, based in Wales, he seems very nice am picking my first load up on Friday, another lot on 14th October and monthly after that. Appears to be very genuine and is even throwing in 500 extra books for changing collection date. So my fingers are very firmly crossed!
Also I know not Amazon related, but when I was selling before also used Ebay using the free Auctiva with loads of photo's etc, my sister says they now charge you for this, is there anywhere you can get the same service for free?
    Thanks in advance.

Unfortunately there is no truly free alternative to Auctiva. I have had to revert to using Turbolister and adding extra photos via photobucket.

Regarding ebay, just rememebr that from 16th October books must have free post and packing as the first postage option.

I wish I had room for a pallet of books but my problem is that I have no where to have them delivered. I had thought of getting a storage room in a self store place and seeing if they would dleiver to that, but it started to get complicated. My current supplier of books who used to sell 100 - 500 or so at a time is giving up soon so I am left with just general auctions and charity shops unless he changes his mind.

I haven't used Ebay for about 18 months either, I didn't know about the free P&P so thanks for telling me.

Am lucky (or rather unlucky! as the case may be), that the biggest sitting room in the house I cannot afford to do out and could put thousands of books in there because of the size. have agreed to buy 1500 per month which doing full time and sorting through them should be doable!

Good luck, it sounds like you have a good viable business there.
