    Reporting a 1lb loss this week - finally after a 3 week hiatus.:j

That has given me a bit of an incentive to carry on. Had a lovely 9 mile walk in Yorkshire Dales on Sunday with the ramblers. Still no biscuits, cakes or chocs.

Buttons - you made me laugh out loud! Antibiotics always do that to me, so I avoid them, and Drs. as a general rule. I had a time of repeated episodes of 'whistling f@nny', as I call it, and put it down to eating too much bread. I swear by the two pronged attack of pessary/tablet + canestan cream (preferably the blue tube, which has a local anaesthetic in it). I know yogurt - placed in the 'area', can be soothing, but these days I prefer to eat natural yogurt rather than waste it on my bits!

Victory - so much great nutrition and alternative food advice there. I've done very similar things to you to enable my children to eat more healthily. Sometimes I've found that they like things I don't, but it shouldn't mean I don't allow them to experiment if they show an interests. 2 of my boys have discovered this winter that they love porridge. They actually choose to make it for themselves in the microwave, not even using the sachet type. Like you I used to have a cupboard full of sugar puffs, frosties, coco pops, etc., and now it's shreddies, cheerios, porridge, weetabix. I occasionally treat them to a box of cornflakes, but they invariably go stale as they choose the others. Limiting the amount of bread in the house has helped. I buy crumpets, which are a good low cal alternative. Mine all love my sugar free jelly too, so if I make it I'm lucky to get a look in. I like mine with a dollop of natural yogurt on it. Scrum yum!

I also used to cook lots of pies, creamy sauce pastas, and basically lots of processed or stodgy foods. Part of it was laziness, and part of it was just wanting to do meals they'd eat and not waste. Bit by bit they've left the dark side, and eat more and more healthily. Another good healthy meal is eggs. Mine actually hassle me relentless to have eggs for tea. They love them scrambled, boiled, dry fried, or an omlette. Last week it was all I could do to stop my youngest stealing my mushroom omlette off my plate; 'ooh mummy, that looks so yummy, can I try a bit? Can I try a bit more? Are you going to finish that?'

Marion, I think you know SW inside out by now, and you know what works best for you. It was worthwhile trying out the new plans, but if you feel you need something with a more defined structure, then that's what's best for you. For me I know that carb laden foods are a trigger for my body to crave more food, and I also know that if I stay away from sugary foods, I tend to not even think about them, so it makes them less of a temptation. I'm still really enjoying my new healthy foods, and am not missing anything really.

I was wondering what others chose to eat as their 'fail safe' meal? If you're at a loss for what to have for a lunch or evening meal, what do you always have to hand to create? Mine is probably mixed vegetables with quorn fillets or quorn bangers. For lunch it's my Sainsburys chunky veg & chicken or beef soups, and for snacks it's natural yogurt with apple, banana, or strawberries (sometimes I have all that fruit with some yogurt and make it my lunch).

Anyway, today Losers, I am going to try one of the new Ainsley cup a soups, as mentioned by another poster - sorry, the name fails me now! Might have that now, and a couple of Ryvitas.

Sary whenever I try to make non-sachet porridge in the microwave it boils over the top of the jug. I make it for just me in a 1 pint jug so it should have plently of room. I'd prefer to use 'real' porridge but as half of it has to be scraped off the floor of the micorwave it's just not practical. The sachet has chemical additives   to stop it boiling up.

So please please can you write another informative post telling me EXACTLY how to cook porridge for one person in the m-wave? The sachet is 28g and I use 160 ml of liquid so I guess the quantities would be about the same, but timing and power and size of container ..... ppppllllleeeaaasse.

Granny, because you asked so very nicely, and I am partial to lovely manners, I'll tell you how I do it.

I do mine just in an ordinary cereal bowl. My portion is 40g of porridge oats (I once got a freebie scoop with Quaker oats that I use) + 2 tsp sweetener, which I then pour enough hot water on to make them swell a bit, but not so much that they're swimming around. I then top up the fluid with milk. The bowl then goes into the microwave for 1 minute, although I keep an eye on it, as it does have a tendency to bubble up. You need a bit of bubbling to make sure the oats cook and absorb the fluid, and it helps thicken the porridge. Sometimes I may have to remove it a few seconds short of 1min, sometimes it may need an extra 20 seconds - depending upon how big my splash of cold milk was!

As an alternative, if you don't use as much/if any water like me (I get more oats - ooer missus! - for less milk/sugar is my theory) on food focus it works out at about 229 cals with 45g oats, 60g milk 10g sugar.

My microwave is about 800w, as an idea of how powerful it is. If you're putting only 28g of oats in a 1 pint bowl and it's overflowing, you either have the magic porridge pot, and you have to say 'stop pot, stop!',:p or you're leaving it in the microwave for too long, or your microwave is more powerful for the time recommended, or both! Either way, just try to keep an eye on it, while it's in there, and once you see some bubbling, stop it, and give it a stir to check it's thick enough.

I hope that helps. You could always pop round to mine at about 7.30am to see how we do it then:confused: you're more than welcome, but I have to warn you, I look a bit of a fright first thing!

Hell! you do these things and think it was a good idea, and then forget all about it, not realising someone else may be looking! OK beanie, I'll put the link in, although I'm a bit disappointed to not see you there. I think a pic is required!

sary my youngest loved boiled eggs and soldiers, omelettes 'with bits in as he calls it like peppers, prawns, he sees it as a treat (we used to have them on a sat lunch time and now he remembers that as a treat time:D ) We buy crumpets also, made a mistake of buying the love to toast ones the other day and they are very high in cals and sugars and fats so that won't happen again, occasionally they will have hot cross buns but the low fat ones, light ones, my youngest just likes instead of the cakes etc a jug full of no added sugar custard from Sainsburys, he loves slurping that:rotfl: :rotfl: blueberries (cheapest at Aldi rather than the big stores)
I used to be an avid Iceland fan, all boxes, in the oven done, never bothered about sat fats etc but now only shop there because the WW meals are £1 and for the frozen veg, no boxes come home with me now:D

Makro does fab frozen swordfish, salmon (Aldi also) Asda late at night practically give their fish away... I always freeze the bread so it comes out when needed rather than sit there and waste.

For lunch it is always the healthy eating baxters soups or WW potato and leek which is my ab favourite, dinner there is always either some batched made frozen WW meals, the ready made ones, quorn pieces or sausages or any quorn really, snacks 0% greek fat yog, fromage frais, all the salad stuff, crudites of cucumber, carrot sticks, pepper slices, tomatoes, there is always good stuff around to eat now:D

The kids always use the sachets, two at a time for 2 mins. They put rhubarb on it or blueberries, banana slices,

Sary - Last time I had thrush the doctor gave me flurozide?? Something like that, but I haven't bothered phoning for an app, does it go by itself?

I heard EATING natural yoghurt helps restore the natural balance, maybe I'll have some later, really want to avoid more pills if I can!
OH and DD went and got a Mcdonalds....how mean of them, I just sat there inhaling and glaring, at least I resisted. Can't wait for dinner now!

I'm having home made lasagne, which isn't really all that healthy but I just have a little slice, one slice of LF garlic bread that is about 70cals and then have a big green salad on my plate.
Might even treat myself to an avacado. Mmmm
