Polkadot - I'm so sorry to hear about your MC, *hugs* I wouldn't worry about your diet right now, whats important is taking care of yourself.

I've recently started taking Kelp, I advise you to take it with a meal and not like me on an empty stomach because it made me feel very nauseaus (sp) and dizzy, for a couple of days until I realised it was because I hadn't eaten enough. Beware of spots too, my acne has flared up, grrr.

Have plenty of rest, and leaving the house sounds like a good idea, I tend to end up stuck inside a lot with DD, she gets grumpy because of it, and then so do I because she acts like a devil, the past week we have been out everyday, she's had lots of walking around and doing things and we are both feeling better for it, she asks to go to bed at 8pm, and wakes up at 9:30am. Bliss.

YAY to me and beanie! thats a real boost to help keep me on track. thanks raph!

Sorry to hear bad new from dragon and polkadot too. I hope you both feel better son. Actually dragon, you could turn this into a moneyspinner. Charge a couple of quid a head to all the local mums to bring their kids round for a chicken pox party - get their immunity built up.

bm, i throw up on waltzers too - fine on everything else, but waltzers make me nauseous. interesting plan, but you couldn't rely on not getting it on you a change ofclothes would be needed - but if you are lugging a bag around anyway it may as well be full of yummy treats.

The jobs thing is tough at the moment. We're strugglig - OH hasn't worked since the end of jan as there is just no temp work. His kit fair didn't come off so he lost a source of income there. It's funny, we've always been happy with te fact that we didn't need each other financially, but now we do. He has prmised to do more around the house as he isn;t bringing anything in but we'll see. I'm quite ambivalent over the whole thing to be honest - he's not great with money and i've known that from day one, but i've let things pass. I've a feeling we will probably end up having a row at some stage as i doubt that he will give up smoking.

anyway, back to weight loss. yesterdays plan
    cn cornflakes, milk, oj
    sushi, fruit bowl
    cup soup
    ??

well, oh's mum wasn't feeding us, he was mistaken, so go thome last night starving! yesterday ended up

    cn cornflakes, milk, oj
    sushi, fruit bowl
    2 quality streets
2 rounds of ham and cheese on toast, tom juice

so pleased with that. todays plan

    cocopops, milk and oj
    cn cornflakes, milk and apple
    benchmarking instant sauces
ham, cheese, sweetcorn and pea omelette, tom juice

hope you all have a nice day!

Polkadot, so sorry to hear of your loss, wishing you loads of luck for next time.

Raph - thanks for the chart. Well done to Beanie, Katie & Annie :j

FFm- sorry don't know about Foodfocus

Dragon, sorry to hear that things aren't improving with your health.

Katie, I hope something on the job front turns up for your OH soon, is he still helping out at your work?

Today is my struggle day as I am home with the boys but after struggling last Thursday I arranged for my friend and her son to come for the afternoon so I hope that having someone else around will curb any urges to go off track.

    B - spec k
    L - spag bol
    T - chicken & salad
Exercise - 30 mins wii fit & last RC class of the week
Following :money: to keep us debt free :j

Very sorry to hear of your loss Polkadot, your post must have been a difficult one to write but it shows a real strength of character. As Buttonmoons said, weight loss isn't important while you take some time to recover, your health needs to come first - which I'm sure you know :)

Polkadot - I am so very sorry, have a good rest and take care of yourself and your husband - he is probably just as devasted as you are but is trying to hide it and be strong for you. Big hugs to you both.

    Love

Missy I wonder if you can help me out here, re this BMR, I've been on a website and calculated me BMR, but what does this mean? It says on the website this is the calories I would burn if I stayed in bed all day?? I'm confused as to when I then burn calories during exercise, hope you can explain it better to me

I'm not the best at explaining things in an understandable way, but I'll give it a go :p

Your BMR (basal metablic rate) represents the calories required to maintain essential body processes - heartbeat, breathing, organ functioning etc.

As soon as you start moving, even as little as tapping your toe to the music, your body will begin requiring additional calories to fuel this movement. So we therefore use a multiplication factor to allow for this extra energy expenditure when calculating our daily needs - this could range from BMR x 1.2 for a mostly sedentary person, to BMR x 2 for a very active person.

To cause weight loss, we want our body to take some of the energy it needs from our fat stores, so we eat less and/or become more active to create a deficit. For health reasons, this deficit should ideally be a moderate one :)

As an example if someone usually maintains their weight on 2000 calories per day, then reduces it to 1750 and adds an additional 250 "calories worth" of exercise each day, the reduction is 500 calories, which should add up to approx 1lb fat loss in a week (1lb of fat = 3,500 calories).

It's worth remembering that the BMR calculations on websites are only an estimate. Your actual BMR varies depending not only on your weight, age, gender etc but also on your body composition, fitness level, and even things like eating habits (excessive food restriction can cause a significant reduction in BMR - totally counterproductive when trying to lose weight).

Does that help at all? Or have I made it even more confusing :p
