miacat wrote:calley, i looked in sainsburys and they only had the milk digestives here too. so they can't be making the plain, i wonder why not.
No idea either. Wonder if you complained to them and say you would love them to do plain choccie ones as well.
Mind you I was in Asda this morning and they had bourbon biccies in the smartprice range for 10p a pkt
How do they do that?

What a disappointment! Surely someone on this forum could do it as an experiment and show how well you could eat for that! Eg Sarahsaver or MATH, who could probably do it with their eyes closed. l might have to try it myself when DH goes away on work again (he claims to be allergic to Value/Smartprice products..hmm)
I mean, Tesco Value MANGOES??I remember when I was a poor student the first time..you could just about get bread, squash, UHT milk, OJ and a few other things
OOH MATH we has been name dropped;)
Well, I have given this some thought and I am rising, albeit slowly, to the challenge;)
I would not buy biscuits for a start! My kids would love to live on tesco value for a week! In fact cos im at a meeting tonight they have jacket spuds with value cheese, value sweetcorn, value tuna and value spaghetti hoops!!!
Where do you think I got the nickname 'mummy with the outside stripes'?
Helps them to learn to read too, well it did before they started putting pictures on the packets! BTW they loved the value choc rice krispie type things and the cereal bars. For a real posh centrepiece for ds's birthday last year I made an ice bowl and filled it with a pack of value salmon trimmings:) He has fancy tastes:)

those bourbon cremes are actully NICE! i don't normally care for biscuits with the 'creme' filling but they are quite tasty! we like them crumbled over angel delight (well, lidl's version)founder of Frugal Genius UK (Yahoo Groups)0 -
I've just bought the value plain chocolate and it is 5% higher in cocoa solids than the normal Tesco plain chocolate - 45% vs 50%. Very tasty it is too.0

Oh, forgot to say the malt loaf is nice and has less fat ansd sugar than some of the branded ones“the princess jumped from the tower & she learned that she could fly all along. she never needed those wings.”

Wrong supermarket I know
but we tried Sainsbury's value cheesecake today (79p) and it's very nice.
I might serve it with a side of some fruit next time though as the topping is like jam rather than fruit purée.Do I Need One Stops All Unnecessary Reckless Spending£2 CSC - £30 :kisses3:0 -
Have to say, I wish the Value ranges had been around when I was a student. I did my degree in West London in the late 1980's and it was a choice of Waitrose  , or a really grotty Tesco. Even then, Tesco did have the Value range - it was still called Basics then, but the choice was very poor - I can only remember there being crips and they were awful!! Food was expensive and i reckon, 16 years on, I can live more cheaply (terrible grammar - sorry!) than I did then.
I did my list further back in the thread, and, I reckon I could almost shop 100% Value now if I really had to. I proably do about 40% Value products each week, but I might have a go on my next shop to see if I can up the number of blue and white stripes in the trollet!
I will be stepping back into a supermarket for the first time in weeks next Saturday as I've been having home deliveries and collecting the points, but with the code thread gone, I'll be back to shopping in store and I think I might set myself the challenge of spending as little as possible and seeing how I get on!"Stay Wonky":D

I dont buy too much in case of the "false economy" that Ive tried and used em before.
But I use and LIKE
the value peanut butter is fantastic!
OJ is fine but a bit strong ( a dash of water makes it go further anyway :-)
butter for baking ( i have a posher one for rare buttering of toast)
potatoes ( im bothered by food miles, and these are the closest & cheapest, pefect for everything IME)
lard when i need it for baking
homewares wherever possible ( tin opener)
kitchen roll
bin bags - (as Im a heavy recycler, we only really have bits of plastic bags in there anyway)
bought the washing liquid last week, havent tried it yet though.
washing sponges - perfectly acceptable
lynz x:beer: Well aint funny how its the little things in life that mean the most? Not where you live, the car you drive or the price tag on your clothes.
Theres no dollar sign on piece of mind
This Ive come to know...
So if you agree have a drink with me, raise your glasses for a toast :beer:0 -

I know somewhere on this thread there's a post about Tesco's own vodka,
does any one know the difference in the expensive one's compared to the cheaper brand, is the alcohol less or does the taste differ. many thanks in advance.0
