callyw...the biscuits jumped from 25p to 34p in 1 week.
bought value potatoes yesterday (not noticed them before,) i don't know if the taste or texture is going to be much different but i don't think you can go to wrong with this sort of stuff! :grinheart
My dietician advises that a lot of value foods have less salt, sugar and fat than 'normal' goods. Exras that they think make food taste nicer ain't good for you!!0 -
We buy loads of value stuff - love the tortilla chips, as no additives so ds1 and dd3 can have them! Kids prefer value bean to anyone elses! Also like the flour, the plain makes fantastic pasta, posh flour seems to make quite hard chewy pasta, or perhaps it's me!
The only things that we haven't liked were the value pasta quills, they take forever to cook, and the tea bags, taste like the sweepings off the floor.
Still always worth a go, and it's so cheap it doesn't matter if you just want to try it out!
Edit: can also recommend the value potatoes, our huge bag from the local agricultural college ran out yesterday and we all fancied baked potatoes! Bought the value ones as they had bigger pots at the moment than the baking ones! And they were obviously much cheaper for much more! :smileyheaGC Oct £387.69/£400, GC Nov £312.58/£400, GC Dec £111.87/£4000 -
Bought value potatoes myself the other day thanks to an online shop. When I told OH how much he'll be getting I got the "how much!" response. Haven't tried them yet, but they'll be fine for mash. Usually we like to pick out a few big ones at the supermarket for jackets ourselves.
Interesting about the pickled onions...OH likes onions (something to add to the shopping list for next time perhaps)...in fact there seems to be quite a lot I can add to my online basket ready for next time. Thanks for the suggestions all.Baby Year 1: Oh dear...on the move

WOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Funny thing is I went in to a 24 MrT's last night and it was still 25p for milk and 34p for plain.
Very strange if you ask me.
Husband choose non-choccie ones last night

the thing with the value potatoes is that they'll be whatever type of potato that needs selling
they vary in the type/variety a lot though i've had potatoes that had a different name but tasted just like king edwards so that's not bad!
for mash they're fine
for casseroles they're fine
if you're doing baked spuds and will be loading them up with toppings they're fine
go for it i say!founder of Frugal Genius UK (Yahoo Groups)0 -
The cheapest potatoes are to be found at farmshops.
Value spuds work out at 12p a lb,not bad,but my farmshop sells them in 25kg bags for £4 which works out at 7p a lb.
A 25 kg bag lasts us(2 adults,3 kids) for a couple of months. We keep it in the garage, tightly rolled at the top to keep out the light. The variety we have at the mo is Marfona which are excellent baked and sometimes are as big as small melons.0 -
I bouth Tesco Value avocadoes last week for £1.18 for 5. That works out at 24p each as opposed to 57p each for the ordinary ones. But isn't an avocado an avocado? And that's not easy to type!!0
