Update: viewed another house today. Loved it
OK,so not perfect but so very many plus points that outweigh cons, gorgeous kitchen diner, conservatory, cute front room and garden, garage, drive, 3 beds, detached, but it got a bit mad because the seller is incredibly keen - practically kissed our feet as FTBs
She has found where she wants to move to and reckons she would leave loads of furniture and appliances as it won't fit (downsizing). Bit overwhelmed actually, it just seems too good to be true...
We want to go back and see it on a sunny eve, it was a bit gloomy today!;)0 -
Nice one
Had a second look today at the place I'm buying, they're also leaving me a lot of furniture. The cynic in me says make sure you get it in writing, but if they don't need it and it sweetens the deal why not let it all go. I'm getting 2/3 of their house!0 -
OH is in charge of making the call today for another viewing this week. Hoping for some sunny weather this time
Finding it hard to concentrate on work today!0 -
I'm not too bothered about the doom and gloom as we are buying a home, not an investment.
I do think a lot of people make it all sound a lot worse than it is, "this could happen", "what if this happens?" etc. I'm not against being prepared for the worst, but i think people spouting off what they have read in a newspapers doesn't help matters, at the end of the day nobody knows what's going to happen, so we should all get on with our lives
I haven't read through all the pages of this thread, but had to comment on this post. There are so many times when I see regular people and experts talking about houses in terms of money and only money. In that daily week-long programme on a few months ago on BBC2 there was a family that got the kind of house they'd always wanted. It was greatly reduced from 2007 prices, too. Family very happy. Presenter asks them why they didn't wait longer to get even more off the house. Woman says they didn't want the house to go to someone else because it was their ideal home. Getting on with their lives was more important than an extra 10-20k off the house.
My grandad said when he was putting offers in on a house earlier this year the seller's EA said, "Put in a cheeky offer and see what you can get. It's all in the game!" And grandad had to say, "Err... no... it's not a game." He did put in a lower offer than asking price but one that still showed they were serious buyers. He didn't want to play "the game" and go backwards and forwards.I used to have my Avon turnover (sales) here. They've been removed because it's not appropriate to talk about those kinds of sales as if they're realistic for a new Rep to aim for.I signed up at the right time, right place, and was very lucky.

Too true. I certainly don't see my place as an investment, its simply a house I want to live in that pretty much fixes my rent at todays prices fo 10 years. If anything I hope the market seriously crashes in 5 years time, I'm in a shared equity scheme so could buy back the rest cheaper then! Otherwise the house value only matters if I sell, and I can't see myself wanting to TBH. I'm only 33 yet its a house I can see myself growing old in.0

I totally agree with I, Geek it is quite good for buyers in this market, but only realistic buyers!
Many people still believe they can get a HUGE reduction on the price, yet most prices have been reduced to reflect the climate.
We are in the process of buying the house, we are getting a bargain really but we would have paid market value for the house as we love it so much, we are only young but are getting a 3 bed semi, as you say it is not an investment of money its your life investement and I believe no matter what the price if it is the right house then don't be silly and try to 'play the game' as in many cases it just comes back to bite u in the a$$.0 -
WE HAVE EXCHANGED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Only 20 days late.
Should complete next Tues/Wed
YAY!!!!!!
Any one got any updates???0 -
Congrats kibs!
We had our valuation done on Thursday, and our mortgage offer was agreed today! So now we 'just' have to wait for the contracts etc to be drawn up.
It's still very nervewracking because it's still on the market as it's a repossession but with a bit of luck we'll be exchanging within a couple of weeks. Eeep!
Does anyone else go through the nerves of wondering if you've got the right place? I don't think I'm nervous because it's not right for us, I think it's just like wedding jitters - hoping it all goes smoothly and nothing goes wrong with the property if/when we move in.0 -
I'm not sure what we're waiting for... survey came back 2 weeks ago and last we heard off solicitor they were waiting on something back from vendors solicitor... emailed her earlier for an update, but nothing yet. EA was getting at us last week as apparently vendor now wants to move the BH weekend. Not ideal for us, but we'd pretty much agree to anything right now because we don't trust the vendor not to pull out/ ask for more because they've been difficult since the beginning.
I just want to sign!!!0
