Good luck Lauren!! Here’s hoping they don’t find anything bad!
Vkay – that not necessarily bad news because that may just not be the house for you. Maybe something is telling you to find your dream house elsewhere.
Dottie that’s the best news!!! I didn’t realise it only took a couple of hours, but I suppose the vendor being in the house made a bit of a difference. Do you have a completion date?0 -
SelenaLouise- no completion date at the mo, as our mortage hasn't got approval yet! :-S But it's because I had to send in extra documents as I am self employed, so needed accountants verifcations etc...so it has taken abit longer than normal! But I'm feeling hopeful!! heehee! The homebuyers cost me £225, so even if we didn't get the mortgage, I would have only wasted that, rather than thousands!
I think the house we're buying is in fairly good condition, so it probably didn't take that long to go round! Maybe if it was an older property/needs work/listed building etc...that would probably take much longer!
Hope your survey goes well!!....keeps us posted on things!!:rotfl:0 -
Hi Having rented for a number of years since becoming single, I was hoping to finally own my own property again soon. However,at 63 yrs old and reading all the pit falls etc. I think I may just buy a boat and sail off into the sunset!
I was tempted with a caravan but OH wants kids so no go!0 -

My boyfriend and I are potential first time buyers with what amounts to a 25% deposit for the price range we are looking at (thanks to parents). We’ve been looking for a few months now and thought we’d finally found the right house.
I viewed it on Friday evening (it’s easier for me to do the initial viewings and narrow it down before dragging the OH along!) and managed to get a second viewing on Sunday. OH loved the house too and we put an offer in straightaway (under the agents’ door) near to the asking price as it was already really low for a quick sale. The vendor had told us there had been 9 viewings on the Saturday so we knew there was a chance we wouldn’t get it. After an agonising day yesterday waiting for and making phone calls, agreeing we would go to asking price if it meant we got the house (it would still be in budget) the agent rang me after work to say the vendor had accepted an offer OVER the asking price!
Was surprised to say the least that anyone is offering over the asking price in this market but I guess they felt it was worth it!? It was the only house in our preferred area with 3 beds and a garage so now having to think about how far to stretch our search area as we want to get this right and know there have to be some comprimises.
Anyway, the search continues, will be keeping my eye on propertybee as usual, hoping something even better drops into our price range, and no doubt will be on here asking for more advice soon!
I heard about cases like this - especially with realistically or comparatively lower priced property in good areas. They attract loads of viewings then possibly offers over asking price! Well, I think that shows you've had a good eye for the bargains and are looking in the right areas! So don't give up and the better house will be about the corner! good luck0 -
Oh no, I've done something very stupid. I went to look at the property's web page again just to make sure they had stopped marketing it and ive seen another identical property round the corner for roughly the same price but needs ABSOLUTELY NO WORK doing to it. It looks amazing and now Im thinking I might like to go and have a look at it.
Please tell me I'm being stupid and that I can always do my place up (with what money lol) and I need to stop messing about. Why do I feel I will be losing out if I dont go for this property?
Why did I look!! I could kick myself!!0 -
Hi ... I am not an FTB personally, but I posted this Thread based on an announcement in Scotland today - which may be of interest to any FTBs based there.

Hope it might help someone ...
Thanks for that info MF.
Can this scheme be applied to any house?
Do you know where i can find actual info on applying for this scheme as opposed to just news that it is going to happen?Matched betting profit since Feb 14th 2009: = £638.59

I am not 100% sure this is up to date Jinky - but I think it is.
Follow this link:

Because it doesn't affect me personally, I have only really scanned what it involves, but it looks like it applies in different regions in different ways - so you may have to click on different bits of that link to see how (and whether) it may or may not suit you - but I hope this helps.
There are some good (imho) examples of how it works - including - because it is a shared equity arrangement - examples of how it would affect you with price rises or falls in house values in the future, and if say you made improvements. If many little people, in many little places, do many little things,
they can change the face of the world.

I think the combined salary of myself and my girlfriend may be a little bit too much to qualify. Shame if it is though as it seems a great incentive for people like me with very little debt but at the same time very little savings.Matched betting profit since Feb 14th 2009: = £638.59

Thanks, just wasn't prepared for it really, having been on loads of viewings with no other interested people. It was a 2 bed converted to 3 but done really well... just hope someone else has had the same idea as we don't fancy the work (there's even a couple of 2 beds in the same road on the market at the same price as the 3 bed was but wouldn't have a clue how much it would cost to convert!)
We'll keep trying; going to try to keep friendly with the agents so I hear first about these sort of "bargains"!
Really appreciate your advice, thanks :cheesy:You can try, but you'll never catch me. Bazinga!0 -
Well im a happy bunny now
I got a call from the surveyor last night saying everything was fine with the house besides some of the rendering coming off, which we knew about anyway.
So now im just waiting for my solicitor to look through it and then a completion date hopefully :j
Hope everything is going ok for everyone else.
Vkay - Glad you are sticking to your guns!! We did the same and lost out on a few houses we loved. I was realy upset at the time but now i have found a house that is better than anything i saw before! Good luck
Selenalouise - You sound like me! I can never help my self when it comes to this housebuying lark! The house i found was way above our budget and i knew i should even have looked at it but i did!!! and after along time waiting, saving and negotiating i now hopefully have my dream house (cheeeesy i know lol).
So i would say go and have a look! You might regret it! You have to look at ALL options. Thats what i think anyway0
