Spent 27 minutes to get mine, said no I don't want an upgrade on anything other than the battery and the back-up disc. He then spent 20 minutes about the extended warranty, originally said the warranty was for 90 days only then backtracked when i said it was a year at least. Got mine for £317 including the upgrades but unfortunately the email i got does not mention any upgrades. You cant take the trousers off an elephant!0

6 cell 56whr Primary Battery
English - Genuine Windows XP Home backup media

Just a quick question folks, have ordered but like most, don't want 2 tonnes of crap installed as eats memory and slows down lappy. Have a Broadband router with built in firewall, have just done test via symantec website to check security after turning off Norton and came back safe. Am I correct in thinking that all items with internet access provided by the router will be behind the firewall and there be afforded the same protection?
If so, all I should need is an antivirus prog and a spyware prog - true?0 -
Now, does anyone know where we can buy a cheap laptop carry case for this laptop??
Thanks0 -
I ordered notebook yesterday. at 4th attempt with screen upgrade £335.43 replyed to offer 3 times but only reply was another offer for standerd screen at £299. Today checked with visa, money collected. I then had a call from very nice Irish lady at custmer services, I had comlained to the Daily Express and they had got on to Dell on my behalf. I told her about the rotten treatment we were all having and quoted all the complaints which you guys had posted. She said that she was shocked and would look into it. she said that my order would get priority as she had it on her screen, so Im hoping for the best. But I now know who to phone...0

Hi. Gobsmacked. Mine arrived this afternoon & it looks ace!!!
I note that several people have mentioned all the garbage that comes pre-installed. Would someone be able to put together a definative guide on how to safely remove all this, in an easy to understand, foolproof, computer-novice friendly sort of way (without resorting to a recovery disc or alternative XP disc)?
I'm sure I would not be the only person who would be very appreciative if they could.0 -
I saw ppl mentioned upgrading it yourself..... how easy is it to do? I've installed memory, HDD, modems, scsis into my desktop... am I likely to be able to do this myself??0

There will be a small cover on the bottom of the laptop, probably with a screw holding it, the memory slots are under there, just stick in your new memory, replace the cover and turn it on. Don't handle the memory to much and ground yourself before taking it out of the pack.
Actually.... look here:- http://www.crucial.com/uk/install/sodimm.asp
You should be able to do it, most people will be able to, if they can change a fuse in a plug they should be able to do it, just nobody charge themselves up with static on their carpets before touching the memory stick or it will break.0 -

All I did with my Dell 6000 laptop was go to the control panel, add/remove programmes and take off all the dell/Aol rubbish that way.
Didn't take very long and its a damn site easier than reinstalling windows XP.
I also changed the memory to 1 gig .. just unscrew the bottom plate, unclip the memory and plug the new stuff in.0
