Ordered the laptop on Monday, it was attempted to be delivered on Wednesday but unfortunately the person taking the order put down the wrong house number. Courier firm would not change house number without instruction from Dell so yet another call to Dell to get number changed. Received an email that day saying that courier had been notified of change of house number. Phoned courier on Thursday to ask about laptop only to be told they had no notification from Dell. Yet another call to Dell(Must be about my 10th call) only to be told it had not been done yet but would be. Tomorrow is Friday my laptop is only 20 miles away from me. I could drive there in 30 minutes and pick it up but not allowed to by Dell or Courier. Im on the lookout for a Desktop but i dont think i'll bother using Dell.

One note if you decide to go and pick it up, firstly DELL have to authorise it in advance and secondly UPS will not release it unless you take photo id with you.

Is it normal procedure for them not to take card details on the phone and then email you the quote which you have to reply to to accept before they process your card details.

If not I've just been had.

SPoke to them around 15 mins ago and no email yet.

I had this with an order on saturday and still no status showing on the online tracking service, i used a link on there to query my order but it came back as service not available.
Just tried to phone DELL again and ended up being put through to some Indian ladys voice mail telling me she is out of the office till monday !

Just received a call from Dell and they have just told courier about change of house number so fingers crossed i may get it tomorrow.
I have dealt with a few courier firms and actually work for probably the most famous delivery firm in Britain who shall remain nameless, and have never had any difficulty in picking up an item. Of course i realise i would need I.D and if a photo is required i'm sure my passport or Licence would be sufficient. My main point was if they seem to make things very difficult compared other delivery firms and also the problems almost everyone seems to be having with sales and customer services.

Delivery could be an issue for me, unless they can deliver in the evenings.

Just have to wait and see what happens.

Only just got my pdf with order number today, and status is now at Delivery preparation, so hopefully will get it soon :D
  • I have found UPS to be a real pain. They refuse to leave parcels with a neighbour, even though she has keys to my house and would let the driver see the parcel being left in there, on the grounds that i personally must sign for the parcel. BUT ! when i have had the parcels redirected to work they will happily leave them in our goods inwards department in a seperate unit no matter how clearly i state which unit they should be delivered to.
I understand the need for security but would expect some consistency.
My nearest UPS depot is 45 miles away so having to collect is a nightmare.

I never thought about delivery to my work but agree that UPS seem to go a bit over the top with security. My problem was person i ordered from put number 36 instead of 46. Would have thought a bit of common sense from UPS when i called them would have been simple to change address. Specially as my name is quite unusual and i would have supplied proof of name when he arrived.
Hey but what is common sense.
  • Just a note about the delivery to work thing, you have to register your works address with your credit card company or this is another no no.
