I have discovered why this model is on the web at 339 and in the papers at 299.
The cheaper price does not include a mains lead - at least that is what I have been told by the Dell telephonist and in the paper it lists power options as starting at 35+VAT.
Can they do this - taking away 40 pounds worth of goods and then advertise it at 40 pounds off???

As mentioned It Definitely does come with a mains lead as received and using today.

  • The £315 quoted above only applies if your company is an affiliate of Dell, or has links to their Employee Purchase Programme.

Earlier posters made it clear that if you order through the EPP and you're in no way affiliated to Dell, your order will be cancelled pronto.

The point I was making is is it good value at 339 on the web. Have tried phoning but had problems and am considering just going for it on the web. Or are there better deals around at that price?

Without wishing to tell people to suck eggs, please see my earlier post...I know 4 people that have said exactly this and got no hard sell whatsoever...

    1) Call through to HOME sales (must be home)
    2) As soon as the person answers (India or Ireland, doesn't matter) get the person's name in full.
    3) Say to the person, "Hi Vijay/Bob/Jane, just to let you know that I have tried to place an order with Dell a couple of times now and had the phone put down on me (say this whether you have or haven't). I have spoken to customer services and they have told me that this call is being logged. All I have to do is call them back and they will track this back to you via my telephone number (this is true by the way!). I only mention this Vijay/Bob/Jane, because I don't want you to get into a discplinary position with your employers (apparently it is a cardinal sin to hang up on a customer)
    4) Now, please can I order one of these laptops that you are advertising at £299.

Obviously, then ask for any upgrades (screen and battery seem popular)...

If this doesn't work, please post it....

Yep full details about the mains cable please - what colour is it, how long, did it have a sandwich-bag tie around it, and one of those cool moulded pin-protectors. And was it in a bag? :rotfl:

Even at £339 it's a bargain. But you can do better than that by going through Quidco and save 4.5%.

There are Acer and Fujitsu machines around at about £80 more. Typically you might find a bigger screen on those but to upgrade the battery and screen only adds on about £50.

Remember it's internet (broadband - wired and wireless, or dial up modem) ready, has a DVD+-RW, and is widescreen.

Ordered the laptop on Monday, it was attempted to be delivered on Wednesday but unfortunately the person taking the order put down the wrong house number. Courier firm would not change house number without instruction from Dell so yet another call to Dell to get number changed. Received an email that day saying that courier had been notified of change of house number. Phoned courier on Thursday to ask about laptop only to be told they had no notification from Dell. Yet another call to Dell(Must be about my 10th call) only to be told it had not been done yet but would be. Tomorrow is Friday my laptop is only 20 miles away from me. I could drive there in 30 minutes and pick it up but not allowed to by Dell or Courier. Im on the lookout for a Desktop but i dont think i'll bother using Dell.
