    Be very careful here !

The part code used for both on his ebay ad is for 200MHz DDR2 (400MHz) memory which is correct for a Sony. HYS64T128021HDL-5-A

For a Dell it should be HYS64T128021HDL-3.7-A

    The Dell uses 266MHz DDR2 (533MHz)

If you order the correct Dell memory, make sure what you are getting is HYS64T128021HDL-3.7-A as there is a big speed difference
    between 400Mhz and 533MHz.

BTW is anyone aware of whether the geographic number works for this deal?
If so, how late in the evening can you continue to place orders?

according to the Dell configurator page, the Celeron M uses 400MHz memory, but comes with 533MHz memory????

    linebr.gifspacer.gifspacer.gifIntel® Celeron® M Processor 370 (1.50 GHz, 1MB L2 Cache, 400 MHz FSB) [Included in Price]
    spacer.gifspacer.gifIntel® Pentium® M Processor 740 (1.73 GHz, 2MB L2 Cache, 533MHz FSB) [add £188.00 or £5/month1]
    spacer.gifspacer.gifIntel® Pentium® M Processor 750 (1.86 GHz, 2MB L2 Cache, 533MHz FSB) [add £258.50 or £7/month1]
    spacer.gifspacer.gifIntel® Pentium® M Processor 735A (1.70GHz 2MB L2 cache 400MHz FSB) [add £94.00 or £3/month1]

    Or I am misunderstanding things?

Also now noticed that when playing around with configurations and prices on the Dell websiet, you can no longer upgrade the battery or add the resource cd's - odd...

Well just tried to order on the 0870 number(s) but says support is now closed even though I clicked through to sales etc. I have checked previous posts in thread and people are ordering at this time of night.
    Anyone got any ideas?

I guess if the motherboard FSB is only 400MHz then there is no advantage is using 533MHz memory ? (400MHz memory is cheaper)

I just thought the ebay guy was misleading people if he is claiming to sell 533MHz memory, but not using correct part number.

I don't know when the phone lines are supposed to close.

Maybe they closed early so they can sack all the Indian staff that have been cutting off calls. ! :D
  • Well, I ordered on Monday night, but my credit card has not been debited and there's no sign of my order being tracked on the Dell-boy website. I haven't received an email because they never asked for my email address! I'll give them til tomorrow and then start an assault on their customer services.
Incidentally, I understand that the offer has been extended, again. As have the special offers on their website. Isn't there some sort of law against this, I mean, getting everyone rushing to place an order before a continually expanding deadline?
Maybe not illegal, but certainly dodgy (even if it was to my benefit on this occasion).

So is the memory i've ordered ok then?

YES. Your order is fine !!!

The Celeron FSB runs at 400MHz

    Intel® Celeron® M Processor 380 (1.60 GHz, 1MB L2 Cache, 400 MHz FSB) [Included in Price]

    Intel® Pentium® M Processor 740 (1.73 GHz, 2MB L2 Cache, 533MHz FSB) [add £117.50 or £3/month1]

    Intel® Pentium® M Processor 750 (1.86 GHz, 2MB L2 Cache, 533MHz FSB) [add £188.00 or £5/month1]

    Intel® Pentium® M Processor 735A (1.70GHz 2MB L2 cache 400MHz FSB) [add £23.50]

(this was from the Celeron 1.6Ghz version)

As you can see above, the Pentium FSB is 533MHz.

The £299 model that most of us have bought here, is the Celeron at FSB 400MHz, so the 400MHz cheaper memory is fine. :D
  • iv just had mine delivered today and it seems a great laptop, just needs the extra 256mb to speed things up. Im just clearing the junk thats currently preinstalled on it and am having difficulty removing the McAfee internet security, keep getting: "virus scan is running, please close all running instances of this application and retry uninstalling McAfee security/center products" despite exiting the application. Anyone got any ideas?

Try right clicking on the mcafee icon in bottom right hand corner of screen and closing\exiting\shuting down the application.

Or CTRL+ALT+DEL end process for anything that looks like mcafee

Shouldnt be difficult to uninstall, jus needs Mcafee to completely shutdown

    blah
