ordered one yesterday - spoke to a 'colleague' in India! - never processed the order!

Spoke to a colleague in Dublin and asked why the order was not processed and he could not give a reply but only apologise for the inconvienience and he would process the order - SUCCESS! order acknowledgement e-mail within 5 mins - order confirmation 30mins - RESULT!!

Ordered another one today so 2 on order - same problems spoke to someone in INDIA for 20 mins only to find that the order was not processed again. Spoke to the same man again today having being told that you can only order ONE at a time and when I asked why? the guy in India said try again on Friday. When I spoke to the Dublin colleague he did not know as to why you could only order one - only that Dell were 'losing' money on this laptop! but he processed for me an identical laptop for the same money as of yesterday for £314.00 which includes the higher rated battery. All in all an EXCELLENT RESULT

It does say one per customer in the small print in the newspaper advert.

I've just brought a 1GB memory of ebay for a great price

The same guy sells the exact same strip of memory for £3 cheaper under " Sony Vaio" memory ( check the quoted memory code - its the same)

well I got my laptop in the end :D I must say for the money I am still very impressed. I expected something quite horrible but overall its great. Feels quite solid, has a decent weight to it without being HEAVY. Gets a little warm towards the knee, but its absolutely perfectly silent until you put a disk in the cd drive. I didnt even think it was on at first! SPend an hour uninstalling some of the crud software they put on tho (all that AOL stuff) :(.

Nice bright screen (get the upgrade its worth it), nice feeling keyboard, easy to use and a decent speed. For general tasks (word processing surfing the web music video etc) this thing is superb and fits the bill perfectly! For gaming you arent gonna be as impressed, altho for 5year old games and such, again it would be great.

Even at 256mb of ram its not too shabby, but I recommend atleast filling the other slot with another 256 (the graphics card shares this memory too). Its only like £28 at crucial and you can get cashback off that.

Not much else in the box, power cable, telephone cable, internet cds (in the bin) and a couple sheets of instructions which dont give much info. Plus 1 restore cd. Battery was 90% charged on arrival.

If anyone has any particular questions then fire away :D COnnected to my new Belkin wireless router (from the other thread) within seconds of it being started up. All painless and easy!

Oh I wholeheartedly recommend the screen and battery upgrades. Still brings it in under 350 which is such a fantastic price!

When mine arrived the first thing I did was to remove AOL, Tiscali etc then I used Win xp to make a restore point before I installed any software, I thought this would allow me to clean things up without needing a resore disk - is this too simple?

Well I phoned at 12:30 today, seemed as though everything went ok, all details taken, but I 've nothing since. No acceptance or confirmation order e-mail

I phone about an hour ago, and they say they have no record at present that anything is to be dispatched to my post code.

Do we think my order has been processed? Or do I call again in the morning and play up merry hell (politely of course!) if there is still no sign of a record?!

    Any help/assistance gratefully received!!!!

If you didnt get an emailed quote you have no order :( First step is a quote by email, which you accept, followed by a confirmation, then an order confirmation.

I think you been had, sorry :(
  • Did anyone else have a small square piece of plastic attached to the top of the laptop with masking tape ?????

I'm trying to work out what it was for.

    Thanks
    Daniel

when you say clean things up what do you mean??

removing all that junk will help loads for the performance :D and the restore point means if anything you install goes wrong you can roll it back.

The ultimate would be to install your basic stuff you want (winzip, anything like that) then get hold of a ghost utility (norton ghost, imagemagic etc etc) and make a dvd ghost. Hopefully you dont install too much that it still fits on 1 dvd lol.

Then keep that safe and backup your data as normal. If the pc ever needs reformatting or dies, you can use the ghost disk you made to take it back to beginning, but not dell beginning with loads of junk :T

I thought I'd been had, as a saleswomen took my order & it sounded dodgy, rang back 1/2hr later & there was no record. So after loads of hassle ordered again, then found out later on that I had 2 ordered!
