No need to log in. Doubting Thomases can just click on the link.

Not so much 'doubting' as confused.

On the one hand we have Plusnet's 'Legal Information' page (which is still there - and which I would have thought carries some weight when it comes to contract enforcement) telling us that:

    http://www.plus.net/info2/legal/index.html#5

"Your Terms and Conditions for: Plusnet Residential Services
These Terms and Conditions come into effect from 17th February 2009

    Plusnet Broadband price terms

    2. All Plusnet Broadband options have a minimum period of 18 months, except Plusnet Pro which has a minimum period of 12 months. A new minimum period will apply to Plusnet customers who change to a Plusnet Broadband Products Family on or after 17th February 2009"

and on the other handwehave Mand Beckett of the Plusnet Comms Team
on the Plusnet UserGroup Forums advising people that:

    http://community.plus.net/forum/inde...topicseen.html

"Existing customers have the following options:
    - Stay as you are, on your current product and terms
    - Move to one of the new products, on a 12 month contract, with introductory pricing but no hardware, but keeping any value added services which are active on your account at present
    - Move to one of the new products, on an 18 month contract, and take advantage of the free hardware and house move (you also get the introductory pricing, and to keep any current value added services)"

However, as I said in my last message I've sent a message to Plusnet 'Help Assistant' with a link to this thread & I'll report their reply when I get it

I agree that the Terms & Conditions need to be modified to show that existing customers are only tied in for a minimum contract of 12 months as an email from Plusnet does not carry much weight in court.

From personal experience with their sister organisation (madasafish), it's worse than that.

They e-mailed me contractual/money details then they themselves later attempted to renege, using the excuse "the e-mail we sent was wrong due to human error"!

(An escalation soon got them seeing sense!)

Bearing in mind plusnet have been bought and sold in recent times, along with madasafish and all the other associated brands. No-one should sign up for this (ie the "special" 12 month contract) and accept the terms and conditions as they currently stand.

Should they get sold on, a new owner would obviously expect customers to honour the agreed ts + cs.

    On the Plusnet UserGroup Forum:

    http://community.plus.net/forum/inde...topicseen.html

we now have the following messages:

    From Chaldon:

"Hi Mand - Thanks for the summary information. However in the massive thread you referred to , I am sure that either you or one of your colleagues stated that existing users would need to sign up to an 18 month contract and then raise a ticket to have this reduced to 12 months if they didn't want to be tied in for 18 months. Is this still the requirement?"

With a reply from James Bailey of the Plusnet Comms Team saying:

    "Chaldon - You're right.

If you move to the new products, you would need to raise a ticket to request to move onto the 12 month contract".

An extraordinary way to do business - and this in a thread on the UserGroup Forum that was supposed to "clear up remaining confusion"!

Not really if you accept that (despite whatever they say) this is really BT you are talking about.

Additional usage is charged at £2.00 per 2GB (or part thereof!). They charge you the following month. No rollover of any paid for extra but unused.
  • Just received email from plusnet that my value is 18 month contract .....

Raised ticket as was told that if you were an existing user only 12 month contract

    response :
You are absolutely correct, as an existing user this should be set to a 12 month contract.
We shall amend this for you.

    [internal]
Please manually change EU's contract to 12 months.

    Kind regards,

Keep an eye out if you switch to value package

It does say in the forums that you must raise a ticket to ensure you get a 12 month contract, which makes you wonder how many people who are switching to the new package are aware of this and are just being automatically put on 18 months contracts without realising they could have a 12 month one if they do not require the hardware.

The option should be made clear in the sign up terms.
