My sister was OK... But she kept trying to talk to me while I was having contractions... Not her fault really, I was so quiet she didn't know when I was having them... Apart from that she just sat there really... She rubbed my back a bit which was nice but I think she must of got bored because she didn't do it for long lol...
The music didn't distract me, it was stuff I'd been listening to all the way through my pregnancy and I just started singing along to myself rather than counting at that point...
And will be hubby this time... He said he's going to charge up the DS and take some magazines because I keep telling him how bored he's going to be sitting there waiting... Apart from passing me water though... Thats the one job my sister did well.. The gas and air really dried my mouth out and she was there at the end of the contraction holding a cup of water for me to sip...A very proud Mummy to 3 beautiful girls... I do pity my husband though, he's the one to suffer the hormones...My Fathers Daughter wrote: »Krystal is so smart and funny and wonderful I am struck dumb in awe in her presence.

mel, OH isn't completely sure (hence why I put "or something like that"
) and the book he'd need to refer to is on his desk at work.. "Work" still being a nasty word today and tomorrow whilst we're still on hols!
Glad your baby's room is doneI was stood in the doorway of what will be ours earlier and nearly cried. It's such a mess right now, but I'm going to make a start on it in a min.. it's got loads of clothes in that I need to sort and ebay. I intend to throw them all plus a clothes rail in my car then take them to my Mum's and set it all up in the spare room there until my next free weekend when I'll blitz them with my mum's help and get rid of everything. I need to then take photos of the furniture and futon in there then get it advertised and sold ASAP, then it can be used as more storage space for 4-6 weeks while the work is being done and then finally the baby's room can take shape, hopefully in June!! And breathe..
On the bright side, builder has just randomly turned up. He doesn't work weekends usually but he's come to sort everything now so we might have hot water some time soon!
Ooh hope you get your water sorted out, it's horrible being without hot water.
At least you have a plan of action to get the room sorted out, and plenty of time too...just don't leave it until you are too big, unless you plan to get your oh to do most of the decorating;) I on the other hand, love decorating and dh hates it so I made sure I did most of it before I became too huuge:)
Just trying to get the big food order done for Monday. trying to put quite a few 'easy' meals onto it, as i'm sure I won't feel much like cooking for a week or so after giving birth!!!

I 'went into myself' during contractions with DS1. The whole world ceased to exist when it came on. I let it sweep over me, kept breathing in and out and it swept off again. Inbetween I fell asleep which was awesome! :rotfl: I hated people talking at me when I was busy!
When hell broke loose with DS2 again I just kept breathing in and out to stave off the panic and the fact that I was in shock too. But then in any situation I end up staying calm by just breathing.
I do this too! It actually annoys me if people touch me or talk to me too much while I am in pain. I had Gall Stones a few years back and used to wake up in the middle of the night in agony...I thought I was going to die some nights! I didn't ever wake dh though as he would of kept asking me if I was ok etc and trying to help me. To anyone who hasn't had Gall Stones, I would rather give birth to 20 kids than ever have those again, the pain was immense.

Depending on the outcome of the scan on Tuesday, it might not need decoraing at all
It's a rather classy floral lilac theme now - I only decorated it about a year ago with the intention of it being a guest room for when girly mates came to stay and I do love the wallpaper in there so I'm more than happy to keep it like that if it's a girl.. In fact, it will really pain me to strip the paper off if it's a boy!

Thanks to Kristal and tia for your birth experiences! Is there anywhere on MSE an index to all the birth stories, like on old style where there's recipe indexes? If not, there should be, I'd love to read all about them! I've been reading all the birth stories on homebirth.org, and mumsnet, has anyone else found these good?
MFD, found this while searching in the medical journals earlier: (sorry to be such a geek, it's how I cope with life!)
'The mean interval between engagement and delivery
was 1.39 weeks (9.7 days), the median was 7 days, and the mode was less than 7 days. In 80 per cent of patients the engagement-delivery interval was less than 14 days.' Where they are defining engagement as 3/5ths.
So what I'm trying to say is that it looks like not long for you lovely, ie prob less than 7 days from when M/W said you were 3/5ths?
NB I should say this study was only of first-time mums... in case I'm misleading anyone!
and durham, also found this and thought of you: Sweeping the membranes significantly reduces the subsequent duration of pregnancy, from an average of five days to two days following the procedure. The proportion of inductions of labour was 8.1 % in the swept group and 18.8% in the control group. (ie you're 10% less likely to need an induction having had it done.
I'l go be boring and geeky elsewhere now!

LOL - thanks for that Weezl - I was first recorded as 3/5th engaged the Wed before last - so 10 days ago now...or should that be 9.7
If we could go for before Wed then that would be good (and would keep me within the 80% 'norm' that deliver within 14 days). Unfortunately I have never been great at being 'normal'.
Actually, tomorrow would be perfect - we found out we were pregnant on our 2nd Wedding Anniversary on 1st July so it would feel right somehow for Bubba to arrive on 1st March
He'll come when he comes I guess!
Hubby is just finishing off Bubbas cotbed - then all I need to do is put the finishing touches to the nursery and we are donefeels a bit strange...not sure I want to be completely ready...all there is left to do it wait then
There will always be something to do though....she says looking at the kitchen floor
