I did this at the end of July and my cheque cleared in the bank on the 14th of August.

I promised them I would let MoneySavers know either way and I'm chuffed to bits that I get to be positive. Easy to complete and the communication was very good, letting you know what was happening along the way.

If you are asked to do this then I say go for it, £50 to help pay for the MOT. :)

  • Hi, i just need to know if this is a normal e-mail/process, please? I signed up and received this e-mail re: a new Bank Account. It just sounds a little dodgy to me, the English is poor and I feel fairly unprofessional. Everyone here seems to be getting cheques through the post, why would someone need a new Bank Account in order to become a Mystery shopper? I am very suspicious that the site may have been hi-jacked and we are being subjected to a fraudulent scam? i hope I'm wrong. The link to the website is the one via the MoneySavingExpert link at the beginning of this thread:

    Attn Survey Agent,
After accepting your application as one of our mystery shopper, we will need to be sending you funds regularly to be carrying out the instructions that will be sent you regularly as pertaining to your new position with the
    company.
You are required to open a NEW BANK ACCOUNT preferrably with natwest, HSBC or barclays.that will be used between you and the company transactions to ensure a faster and easier way of transferring funds to you. You are to get back to me with the:-

    Bank Name:
    Sort Code:
    Account Number:
    Account Name:

PS: this should be a New Account
    Regards

  • Hi there, I'm the CEO of Consumer Intelligence and can assure you this is NOTHING to do with us.

If anyone can get me access to where this information came from I would love to track these fraudsters down and put a stop to them.

To be totally safe go to the website (contained in Wendy's original post) and click on the "Join now" link there.

We will NEVER ask you for your bank details because (as you can see from this forum) we send out cheques. I know, I sign them!

    Thanks for the info.

    It's now down to £20 not £50

Consumer Intelligence is contacting you in relation to a Mystery Shopping project.
We are looking for individuals to help us test motor insurance companies and their web sites . The work involves visiting seven motor insurance web sites, filling in your renewal details, getting quotes and then feeding back some information to Consumer Intelligence.
We will pay you £20, as long as you complete the whole campaign.
To be eligible for this project, we are looking for people whose motor insurance renewal is due in November. You will not be eligible if your car insurance has already been renewed.
  • Thanks for the note, we are actually looking for people to do something much more quick and simple for this project.

Instead of making calls for car insurance , they will be looking at the Price Comparison Sites for home insurance that Martin already recommends.

This is a lot quicker and easier, in fact the whole thing takes less than 30 minutes (which means it's £20 for 30 minutes work!)

If anyone wants to get involved, we specifically need people who are looking for Home insurance and you can sign-up consumer-intelligence.com/home.htm

I got my cheque for £25 recently too. Thanks to ConsumerIntel, I did some shopping around, which I probably wouldn't have done otherwise :o. I ended up halving my home insurance payments, and got paid for it too. Excellent!

If it's just pure market research (i.e. the companies involved haven't asked or agreed to participate) I'm surprised that they are asking people to do this. Recording any phone call without informing the other party is legally dubious:

[FONT=Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif]"Can I record telephone conversations on my home phone? [/FONT]

[FONT=Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif]Yes. The relevant law, RIPA, does not prohibit individuals from recording their own communications provided that the recording is for their own use. Recording or monitoring are only prohibited where some of the contents of the communication - which can be a phone conversation or an e-mail - are made available to a third party, ie someone who was neither the caller or sender nor the intended recipient of the original communication. For further information see the Home Office website where RIPA is posted.[/FONT]

[FONT=Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif]Do I have to let people know that I intend to record their telephone conversations with me?[/FONT]

[FONT=Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif]No, provided you are not intending to make the contents of the communication available to a third party. If you are you will need the consent of the person you are recording." [/FONT]
Suppose that an issue arises whereby you have to use that conversation to prove a point - what then?

If you wish to record your calls and use them for future use eg play to other people or use as evidence you just need to warn the person at the company you are speaking

Now that IanCHughes is posting on this thread, could I ask him to comment on the Ofcom link I posted earlier on? Have you obtained the prior permission of the firms concerned?
