in on a basic 16k salary, my wife doesnt work, and we only get less than £250 per month on tax credits!!
but they are paying out £1k in childcare, so that figure could be correct, although to me it doesnt sound quite right either

I've witnessed a firm going bust because an employee had their hand in the till. You can say that the company should have better controls; difficult when the employee responsible for controlling finance was the one doing the stealing.
As a direct consequence 20 people lost their jobs and 3 lost their homes; 2 went bankrupt.
Being irresponsible with your own credit cards is one thing, large scale theft is another.
Third chance? Forget it.

There is a big difference between and employee suddenly deciding to take £25k out of the till on an impulse, and an employee taking £500 a week out of the till for a year. If the former, I would suggest that its one offence, and if the latter, its 52 offences! This can obviously have a bearing on any prosecution, and sentence.I can spell - but I can't type0

We have no credit cards and the figure I gave for take home pay also includes a DLA payment and there's an extra disability amount paid as part of the tax credits also.
Lukeface, obviously she is going to plead guilty, it's her 1st offence, no previous, we have 2 boys, 5 and 7.
The solicitor feels that an appropriate psyciatric assessment can only help her case.

Its easy for us all to pass judgement and comment isnt it but only you have your wife and the mother of your kids at risk of being sent away or losing her in another way. I guess this could turn out for the best if she does sort her issues out and the family unit stays together, the boys will need a mum but she needs to realise that they need a mum they can look up to and not someone with which they can get bullied over.
Theres a whole load of emotional turmoil ahead and I wish you the best, not a situation Id like to find myself in to be honest.
I think the reason im inclined to be sympathetic is because I also have 2 kids of similar ages, but that said maybe the business owner did too?
Keep us posted on events, if nothing else its an interesting case and id like to know the outcome.0 -
Practical advice.
They will come after your wife for the money. So make sure she doesnt have any. Transfr house to your sole name with immediate effect, cancel any joint accounts and ideally get her to change her address to her parents.
Your priority is to protect your home and your kids home.
She needs to fight it - where is there proof?
Were police involved or was it an internal investigation?
Was she properly represented?
Did they follow correct procedures?
Challenge everything, Delay everything, and in the meantime batten down the hatches. Take union advice if she is a member or see a solicitor.
Stick with the wife - believe it or not this happens quite a lot. Most companies keep it quiet because A they are very embarressed and B they dont want to publicise how easy it is to borrow their money without asking.
Internal checks and controls are usually very poor and you will find your wife is not the only one feeling uncomfortable at the moment.0 -

Obviously the factor of your family circumstances will be taken in to account, but everything i outlined in my first post will by the likely cause especially the bit about it being a breach of trust case and that carrying a automatic custodial sentence.
I would advise taking a appropriate psychiatric assessment, but this assessment will have to be taken on ground of her past and where the illness has come from, the only negative i can see of this is that you divulge to much in to this and the prosecution/police and a wiff that she has done this sort of thing before and didn't get prosecuted this could lead them to go round sniffing and believe me when i say this if they do come to realize that they WILL do this especially if this is being investigated by the london MET police.
If you need anymore advise then feel free to PM and ill try and help as much as i can when i get back this evening.0 -
As I understand it this kind of action will not protect those assets. She will be required to disclose all transfers of assets over the last few years and if they judge that some were done solely to avoid paying due debts then they have relevant powers. This is not a statement of fact but is my personal understanding, but I would highly recommend you take proper legal and financial advice before considering any action of this kind, particularly as trying to conceal assets due as a result of criminal proceedings in this manner can be illegal. They will come after your wife for the money. So make sure she doesnt have any. Transfr house to your sole name with immediate effect, cancel any joint accounts and ideally get her to change her address to her parents.0 -
An unexpected direct debit came out on 17th from loanfinder.co.uk for £56.50. I didnt see it until yesterday and my bank said it was too late to reverse it. Obviously its now cancelled.
Apparently she was gonna a use this company who guaranteed they would be able to find her a company who would sort a loan out.
the details of two companies were forwarded by email, one company didnt cover Northern Ireland and the other company dealt with log books even though she told them we didnt have a car.
Thats what £56.50 was paid for:mad:
Is there no way I can get this money back?0
