There's a study skills book for each subject type. (science, maths, etc.) Are these really essential?
If you've been out of study for a while or are really not confident then it could help. But it's not a requirement. You may also be able to borrow it from the public library, or read a bit using Amazon's "search inside" thing or Google has online books.

Not sure whether its a particular course or a general enquiry, but in general all the study books are provided with the OU.

They weren't on my course-I had to buy two. There are different study skills books because there is such a different between different subjects, with regards to style of essay etc. I am doing a social sciences course and I have found the format very different to the 'A' level and nursing exams I have done. I am finding the skills book extremly useful.
Tomorrow is always fresh, with no mistakes in it!

    Hi everyone

I've only just noticed this thread and if it's not too late, would I be able to join in please?

I'm just about to start DSE141 which is Discovering Psychology. I've just completed DD131, Introduction to Social Sciences Part 1. I'm hoping to have a degree in Criminology and Psychology Studies by the time I've finished in about 5 years

Hope everyones studies are going well :)

    Hi Charlotte :)

To be honest with you, DD131 bored me quite a lot and it was really quite complex in places. I don't think our assignment booklet was very well set out and the text repeated itself quite a lot. That said, I've had a little look at the DSE141 stuff today and it looks a lot better. Everything seems a lot better explained and much more interesting...although I may be changing my mind about that one by the end! Is the 60 pointer going to be your first course or have you done another one previously? What are you studying towards?

I am indeed. Are you doing that one too? It does seem such a long time away but I'm hoping it feels like it goes quickly too. I'm still very enthusiastic for it at the moment but I'm sure that will wear off! :rotfl:

Yes, I just asked the question about course grants in there ;)
I actually opened the book and started some of the studying the other day! Well, got as far as the first video and stopped as it was so late.... but that's actually amazing for me, starting before the course has started!

I'm also doing T189 digital photography but haven't got out to take many photos yet :(

I think I've found you. I hope you don't mind but I've just sent you a friend request, just reject it if you would rather not add me - I won't take offence :rotfl:. I've had a little look at it today, and managed to complete week one. Also a new one for me! I got quite behind with the last one and felt like I was always playing catch up so I'm going to real try and keep up this time :)
