I think it's a bit shocking tbh because the people on the first run of the course had all this up to date info fed to them but because we're on the last run we've been hit with outdated resources and we're expected to do all this research that the first run didn't need to do but all for the same award. Choosing new courses from now on!

Whilst I'm by no means at Masters level, I found it wise to avoid courses which were coming to the end of their life, but also best to avoid courses in their first year of presentation - best to leave it a year or two for the glitches to get ironed out first.
Please forgive me if my comments seem abrupt or my questions have obvious answers, I have a mental health condition which affects my ability to see things as others might.

Hi, I'm starting A218 this time round.

I did K100 (now K101) in its last sitting and it was dreadfully out of date. Bit problematic as health and social care has moved on a lot in the last few years. As I work in this sector (and am very up to date with policy) my hardest bit was sticking to their outdated view as opposed to current best practice :rotfl:. Fortunately, I had a lovely tutor who was very much aware of the issues so I'll forgive them ;) . I believe the new, replacement course has been really well received. So Nic1052 don't let me put you off.

Def agree re avoid 1st yr, I did a business 1st yr of presentation, the tutor was only 2 weeks ahead of us. I ended dropping out, it was personal reasons, but it felt like being 16 again. Back in 1987, we were the test year/ intro yr for the new GCSEs, that was bad enuf.

Thou the next course DB234 - 1st presentation, but I do have faith in the tutor, he was the one from last course.xx

I think the worse thing about your situation GlasweJen is that you have to find your own info whereas earlier presentations you didn't have to. Much more work involved.

I'd agree with this too. Also, if you do a course in its last year of presentation & you have to drop out for some reason and then re-take the course, it's like doing a new course again. (Found to my cost).

I always always always avoid doing a course in its first year of presentation...... until this year when I had to do a new course due to time constraints for the masters degree. It's awful. Never again.

Just spotted this so thought I would join!

I already completed LLB hons and LPC the normal way a few years back (and practised)but started with the OU in October with DD101 towards BSc hons in Social Science with Social Policy and Pyschological Studies.

I'm a bit of a study nerd and am partially studying it for a new service I am planning to set up in a few years (after lot of research and planning etc)

There have been mistakes in the course materials (well assesment handbook thingy) for this course already and I have to say, despite this and not so much clarity on certain things that it's easy a heck.I can easily gain 70%+ on an assignment after only reading for 3 hours and writing it straight after on the due date, without watching or listening to th audio visuals or doing any online activities, also with only reading the textbook. It's not something that should be done but recently I've had no choice but to work in that way (far too much had to be done elsewhere and had to take priority). So I do have to say that I'm questionning it a bit!
