    thought i would say hi:beer:
I am re-taking A210, as although i completed all the tma's last time a couple of years back, i couldnt sit the exam due to ill health and a bereavement.

    My courses:

    Oct 07 - A210 (didnt sit exam)
    Feb 08 - AA317 - Words and Music
Oct O8 - A300 - Twentieth Century Literature (didnt finish, ill health)
Oct09 - A210 - trying not to think about the exam!

am then planning to do A100, EA300 (Childrens Lit) and possibly A215 - creative writing. (gosh that looks like a lot!)

Would definitely recommend trying for a DSA - i have one, and the software and digitial voice recorder were things that although i didnt actually think of them, have made studying so much easier!

As an aside - i see that at least one of you have received your course grant of £260. Does that mean they are all on the way, as i am getting desparate to purchase some printer ink and books!

If the grants are coming out thats brill, I've just had this yrs DSA award, as mainly I need assistance for tutorials, if there not local, but after the course I'm just finishing, I was printing off 50 sheets a paper a week, B201, which bar the reading books, it was an online course, noticed in this yrs award, they've allocated me upto £100 towards ink + paper.

If your having to print out the coursework etc, may be worth asking re the DSA side x

thanks mum2one - i have the same as you - £100 DSA for consumables, such as ink - but need the course grant first to find the £40 to pay for it before i can claim it back!! I thought they would have all been paid at the same time, but guess not.

    Good luck with your course

I'm really struggling to register on my next course - I need to register so I can apply for financial support but it keeps asking me to pay and put in card details before I'm able to apply for financial support - will it take the momney off my card now?

there is a box somewhere on the registration form which asks 'would you like to apply for finanical support to pay for this course' or something along those lines. Have you ticked that - as i have never been asked for card details? Apologies if you have!

Hi, I have only just seen this thread, i am doing DD101, socia sciences course, i have previously done introduction to health, and introduction to counselling, i am working towards an open degree, just to prove to myself that i can do it!! as i am ill and unable to work.
I get the DSA and a course grant, and because of my health issue have been provided with alot of equipment, such as a laptop, disc's, laptop bag, mouse. speakers and even a table (like a hospita table) to work on. they have been brilliant, and i cant fault the support they have give me 1 bit.
I enjoy the studying although it is hard to get motivated at times, but it keeps me busy.
If you apply for financial support then you are automaticly entitiled to the grant of £260. although it is helpful, i do struggle to work out what it is actualy for, as i dont need paper or pens or other stationary as all the work is done on the laptop. i may need 1 pen to mark text in the book.
    but every penny helps!

good luck with your studies :)

Hi all, I will update the thread once by course is finished as I'll be taking a break before my next course in February.

I have my exam on Thursday and I'm bricking it. Mainly because I've done so little revision and I'm worried about my laptop letting me down on the dictation (not that it has before).

Good luck Gemmzie. I had my exam yesterday and it went very badly; had to make up the answers to two out of the four as despite widespread revision my topics still didn't come up.

Am now doing DD301(Crime and Justice); course started at the beginning of October but because of the exam I couldn't!

I called and spoke to financial support and registered via phone - just waiting for my forms to fill in.
Can't wait to see how I've done in L194, results are in December I think.

Def agree there is a box saying asking for financial advice, if you give ur card details ur very likely to be charged for the course. x
