  • Can someone please settle an argument re: course grants? :) I did a 60 point course earlier this year and am about to start a 30 point one. As far as I know, the course grant I got in February is for the whole year, but my work colleague's daughter (also an OU student) is convinced it's per course. That can't be right, surely?

I think it's per academic year, which starts in September. So assuming your 60 point course started before September, you'll get another grant at the start of your next course

I got mine through about 2 weeks ago.
I no longer work in Council Tax Recovery but instead work as a specialist Council Tax paralegal assisting landlords and Council Tax payers with council tax disputes and valuation tribunals. My views are my own reading of the law and you should always check with the local authority in question.

I got mine literally just after the course started - I suppose I'm one of the lucky ones, considering it comes from the Student Loans Company. The backlog is a pain.

Just wondering, I got approved for the PC Grant (bought it and have the reciept ready to send off), but has anyone else (who got it) been paid yet? I hate having paperwork sitting around. XD

Struggling with the difference between the PC Grant and the Course Expenditure Grant. If I get the latter can I use it to put towards a PC and I don't have to show receipts, but if I get a PC Grant I'll need to post proof off?

Grr. My first TMA of this course was due in today. I emailed my tutor a few days ago about two points. One was to check the date (all my other courses have had friday deadlines) and she said it was midday today. Secondly, to ask if it's ok to use outside sources, not just the course materials. She said that there was no point, as there wouldn't be enough room in the word count to cover the info from the course materials and the outside sources and so I'd miss something important.

I've just found the course forums, and someone on there submitted their essay mid afternoon, and someone else has been told by their tutor that it's important to look at outside sources and not just rely on the course materials!

It's this kind of disorganisation and variation that puts me off the OU.

    (I'm doing DD306 BTW).

Despite saying I would never do another OU course again I'm doing the short course on Shakespeare as I'm hoping to study English at uni next year and need to widen my knowledge of Shakespeare.

Ames, I had a massive argument with my tutor when I was doing AA100, the arts past and present, this year regarding using outside material. In fact I was marked down in one essay for having done so. I was absolutely raging about it and probably should have taken it further.

From my experience the deadline for TMA's is midnight on the date given, but for ECA's it is mid-day.
